Trimmed down version of 'Goblet of Fire' fine with Rowling Popular (19454)

David Heyman, producer of the Harry Potter movies, recently told SCI FI Wireopens in new window that they had to trim the 700-plus-page book by following a simple principle: "Anything that doesn't really relate to Harry and Harry's journey is less relevant."

One example: The film will not deal with the subplot involving Winky and Dobby, two house elves, and the issue of SPEW.

According to Heyman:

It's Hermione's issue. Not to say Hermione's [not important]. Hermione's a vitally important character. But you have to make some choices. ... One piece of information ... we've put into another character, which feels perfectly organic [and] works. ... The story works perfectly without [the elf story]. And we consulted with Jo [Potter author J.K. Rowling] about it, and she was fine [with it].

Other things that we can expect to see in the movie:

  • Inside the Weasley's surprisingly spacious tent at the Quidditch World Cup
  • A massive cemetery (where the film's climax takes place)
  • A trophy room filled with silvered plaques and cups of various sizes
  • The Ministry Box at the Quidditch World Cup stadium
  • A faux marble Trial Chamber, which rises several stories high

That isn't so bad. It seems we will be seeing the pensieve scene because we have forfeited the Spew storyline, which is funny but as was said, not relevant to the central plot. I really did like the whole spew thing. it was funny

I really don't mind at all that we have lost the whole S.P.E.W. thing from the movie. It is pretty funny how Hermione drags it into the ground, but that can get a bit tiresome after a while.

Well, I wonder now since we can safely say that the whole SPEW, Winky thing has no big role in the over all plot...does anyone think we can rule Dobby out has the half-blood prince, cause I know some people we saying maybe it was him. I don't personally think he is but just throwing that out there for thought.

how much in the boo was there abou the spew thing anyway? It's better to take that part out than something important like they did with azkaban. Not once did they mention who the mauraders were

Well... that's okay. I wasn't that crazy about the whole "SPEW" story line anyway. And I guess there are ways of working around Harry losing his wand at the quidditch tournament. They could just find it on the ground after Barty Crouch sends up the dark mark. If Jo's happy, great.

Why do they have to take the good parts out? I mean i know if they did not take anything out then it wil be a very Loooong movie but still it would be funny to see Hermione talk about S.P.E.W. Oh well at least they wont take to ball or the tast out.

I dont like the fact that they are cutting parts from the book out. THe book was Sooooooooo Great! It isnt very smart how they cut the Winky and Dobby part out. Just like Bloody Brilliant Dani said what are they gonna do about how harrys wand got stolen?

I think it would be funny also if they just had random SPEW pins on people. Sometimes its just funnier for people who read the books.

Eh the SPEW thing wasn't that big of a deal, so it doesn't really bother me, but I have to agree with Vikki0lvsrg, it would be pretty funny if they put random SPEW pins on people.

We couldn't expect much else, could we? I mean, the book is massive - did anyone really want to be sitting in a movie theatre for 11 hours? I heard rumours once that it would be a 4 hour movie with an intermission but even that would be ridiculous. The true joy of Harry Potter comes from reading the books and imagining everything yourself. That's what I think.

I almost wish they would quit giving us more information about the GoF movie. It's making me less and less patient about seeing the new movie, and in turn, the new book. I don't like all the anticipation. :)

I think that S.P.E.W isnt really an important in the movie. And room for the more exciting things, like the graveyard and with the goblet. It would be really awasome to see the movie. I cant wait for the movie or the book to come out. I really hope that they hurry up and get all the final things done.

NO.... this dissapoints me, because i Dobby and the other elf are the coolest..!!!! Thought the Spew isnt a big deal, they should just put up some flyers on parts of the school, so u can see it in the background at least....Just my opinion though...Wont be a BIG deal though...

I hate that they're not showing SPEW!!! I think it's such an important part.... oh well. I think that if it was wicked long then they'd make a lot of money anyway so they should just do it. Ohhhhh well.At least they're including the Quittich World Cup and stuff like that! We'll see how good it is when it comes out :-D! I'm sure it will be a 5 star movie!

P.S. HAVEN'T POSTED IN SUCH A LONG TIME-- MY COMPUTER BROKE, IT'S FIXED NOW THOUGH~!!

I can't say anything until the movie comes out and I see it. But I do understand all the cutting. It is necessary because film is not the same as a book. In my opinion As a filmmaker, if they have the pith of the book and convery it, then they have done their job well.
