One example: The film will not deal with the subplot involving Winky and Dobby, two house elves, and the issue of SPEW.
According to Heyman:
It's Hermione's issue. Not to say Hermione's [not important]. Hermione's a vitally important character. But you have to make some choices. ... One piece of information ... we've put into another character, which feels perfectly organic [and] works. ... The story works perfectly without [the elf story]. And we consulted with Jo [Potter author J.K. Rowling] about it, and she was fine [with it].
Other things that we can expect to see in the movie:

Well, at least they're attempting to keep the important stuff. And, I didn't really like the whole elf plot anyway. Thought it was a bit pointless. But I am becoming less and less impressed with the movies. They're cutting out almost too much, I think. But, that is my opinion, so oh well.

That's totally fine with me. They had to cut things out and I'm glad they chose to cut that.

That's ok about SPEW, but I wonder if they're gonna have anything about Winky being at the World Cup, or have Winky talking about her master (Barty).

That's not that bad considering that they are leaving the most important things. I don't think SPEW was that important to put into the movie. They did have to cut down over 700 pages of information.

I am glad SPEW is out. It is kind of annoying. Doby is basically one of a kind like Harry. Is Winky gone form the whole plot including the Crouchs get along.

Well is spew is not in it we can expect that spew will not turn into a crusade of some sort in books 6 and 7 then along with winky. Guess she is destined to stay drunk!

I hope the movie turns out well. I know some of it would have to cut. I am sad about SPEW being cut and Dobby. But, we will see how it goes!

This means that Peeves will again miss the chance of being in a Harry Potter movie. We might not also see Moaning Myrtle. It was already said that Mrs. Weasley will not be in GoF. And now no Dobby and Winky.
If the movie will be true to the book, how long will the movie be? 4-5 hours? :)

I never really thought the SPEW stuff was all that interesting anyway - I usually skip over it when I re-read the books. I believe it was a good decision to cut out SPEW. It is, as they say in the article, Harry's story and I really want to see those scenes more pertinent to Harry. Although in OotP I hope to see Dobby wearing all his hats and socks!

You know, half of me doesn't want to sit in a movie theater for hours just to see everything I want to see, but the other half is really going to miss what is gone. The sad part is, we have no control over how they do the movie, I wish we could, then everybody could get what they wanted, but oh well. I'm glad JKR is fine with it. Hopefully, the movie turns out great, despite what is gone.

It's understandable that they had to cut stuff for the movie. It's sad, though, cause I was looking forward to seeing Dobby again, not to mention Mrs. Weasley.

That isn't too bad, though that must rule out any further issues in later books that link to these things is jo is OK with it and there is nothing important missed out.

I don't really mind that SPEW was cut. Hermione could be a bit annoying about it, anyway. But I'm sure they're going to leave something about the house elves in. Even if it's just Dobby bringing in the Gillyweed.
Let's just hope they haven't changed the story beyond the point where it looks like the GOF we all know and love.

Sounds good to me. As long as they still keep what they leave in understandable (something I think they had a few problems with in POA) then I'm fine with it.

LIke most of the posts, I'm not sorry that SPEW is being left out of the movie to stay on track with the Harry plot.I do like the idea of seeing SPEW buttons in the film as an insiders joke. I like that JK tries to teach us about some basic human rights issues by using the plight of the house elves. The director had to make choices and if JK is alright with it, then so am I. From what I have seen and read in interviews, she does maintain pretty tight control so the essence of the book doesn't get lost.

Well I'm glad we won't be seeing SPEW, cos that was just annoying, but Winky and Dobby? How can Winky not be in it? How are they going to explain Crouch and all that? I hate when they move storylines around.
