It would seem that the folks over at Microsoft have been reading the Harry Potter books to get ideas. At the Microsoft Techfest, an annual science fair, a digital wall clock
with hands for each member of the family instead of numbers made its debut. The hands of the clock point to home, school, work and mobile.
The clock won't be for sale anytime soon and was designed to expose employees to projects in development.
On another note, researchers and engineers from the University of Pennsylvania have developed a "plamonic cover
" which is similar to an invisibility cloak also from the Harry Potter series. This version of the cloak works by preventing objects from reflecting and scattering light.
The development, which works by preventing objects from reflecting and scattering light, could have widespread use in the military as it would be more effective than current stealth technology.
I guess reading and watching Philosopher's Stone and Chambers of Secrets helps everyone.

That is so so so kool!!!! But i wonder if that really works and how would it say where each member of the family is? That's weird. I want an invisibility but they must be expensive as hell!!

It's cool that they got the idea from HP but it seems sort of..stalkerish. Or a tracking system, to always know where people are.
you know you love me,

That clock is too cool! My mother would totally want something like that. Ehehee! I'd love an invisibility cloak, but they must cost an awful lot. And the military's going to be using them... great.

Interesting clock! It's cool that it is functional and all, but they should make one for fun that has the whole "In mortal peril", "Time for Dinner" sayings! I wonder if they had to ask Jo's permission before making it?

I saw these before on mugglenet and I think they are fantastic stories. How cool is that that stuff JKR thought she had dreamed up out of nowhere now might actually exist in the muggle world. I hope she gets paid royalties!!!

It just goes to prove that these book's influence will continue to spread for years to come. I think in 100 years people will be coming up with ways to profit from ideas in HP.
