JK Rowling's star wizard will die by the end of her Harry Potter book series, according to a 53% majority of over 15,000 votes cast in HPANA's informal poll. Most fans indicated Harry would sacrifice himself to save loved ones before the end of book seven.
We asked, "Will Harry Potter survive the series and become an adult?"
Here's the rundown as of this story (voting is still open):
41%: No, he'll sacrifice himself to save his loved ones.
29%: Yes, they all live happily ever after.
12%: Yes (for some other reason).
9%: No. If he's not killed, Jo will be hounded to write more.
5%: Yes, though it'll be at St. Mungo's.
2%: No (for some other reason).
The author has playfully hinted -- more than once -- at her leading character's unsure future (at least as far as fans are concerned; Rowling herself knows exactly how the series will end, having already written the final chapter).
We can only wonder if Jo voted in the poll, sometime between taking care of her newborn daughter and sealing up plans for the release of her highly anticipated sixth novel, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. (I just hope he's not whacked by evil French Deatheather Guillaume de Broggy in a deadly duel.)

If Harry Potter dies at in the 7th book, i think i could die! JKR has said that Harry lives in the 6th book, but how could she let Voldemort kill harry? I think Harry will survive, JKR knows that too many people would be hurt if he didn't.

I guess this may be a hard question for some 'Harry Potter' fans. To me it really doesn't matter because Harry would still be the important subject of the book. We would still have to wait for the seventh book to come, but then again who knows?

I think it's likely that he will sacrifice himself, but I hope I'm wrong!! This is the one time I will cry if I'm RIGHT! I also hope that Dumbledore stays around, but it is a good point that without him around to Protect Harry, things would get tough. Hmm..can't wait to find out.

I can see Harry dying in the last book, but I'd really rather he didn't! Surely if only Harry or Voldemort can live then for Harry to die would mean Voldemort would live? If Harry died it would defeat the prophecy!

I agree with Janecameby.... it would not make sense to kill Harry off. Nor would it make sense to kill off Ron and/or Hermione, not after all this build up for their relationship being the mirror image of Mr. & Mrs. Weasley's.
Death and sacrifice do NOT have to go hand in hand.
I read a series (7 books too) by Stephen King where the hero gets so massively CHEESED in the end (not dead, but actually worse). If something like that happens here I will swear off series' for the rest of my life.

I agree that Dumbledore will die soon. That way it'll be really intense and stressful and at the end (I'm sorry to say) Harry might die to save everyone. It's just how he is and that is how it has to be because if he does miraculously survive then she'll be hounded to write more. Though she could just leave us in suspense, but that wouldn't be very nice. :) We'll just have to wait and see :(

I'm sure I speak for all Harry Potter fanatics when I say that we desperately don't want Harry to die. But unfortunetly being the kind of person Harry is, he probably will. He will die to save the ones he loves, it breaks my heart to say this believe me. But I guess what it comes down to is that only JK Rowling knows, and we'll just have to wait until the 7th book. Which seems like an excruciatingly long time, but it'll get here. I'm going to cry so hard at the end of the series, it will be a very sad time in the world. But I guess all good things must come to an end.
