JK Rowling's star wizard will die by the end of her Harry Potter book series, according to a 53% majority of over 15,000 votes cast in HPANA's informal poll. Most fans indicated Harry would sacrifice himself to save loved ones before the end of book seven.
We asked, "Will Harry Potter survive the series and become an adult?"
Here's the rundown as of this story (voting is still open):
41%: No, he'll sacrifice himself to save his loved ones.
29%: Yes, they all live happily ever after.
12%: Yes (for some other reason).
9%: No. If he's not killed, Jo will be hounded to write more.
5%: Yes, though it'll be at St. Mungo's.
2%: No (for some other reason).
The author has playfully hinted -- more than once -- at her leading character's unsure future (at least as far as fans are concerned; Rowling herself knows exactly how the series will end, having already written the final chapter).
We can only wonder if Jo voted in the poll, sometime between taking care of her newborn daughter and sealing up plans for the release of her highly anticipated sixth novel, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. (I just hope he's not whacked by evil French Deatheather Guillaume de Broggy in a deadly duel.)

I really hope harry doesnt die. But i think that when who must not be named tryed to kill harry he left a horucux in him i think hell have to kill himself in order for someone else to kill voldemort.

OOH think a bout all the people who would cry if it did happen. The ink in the books would be ruined and everyone would think the film had turned slushy if people came out with teary eyes!

I hadn't even thought about the fact that if Harry did nOt die, that JK really would be hounded about the whole series continuing. Although she mentioned that the last chapter would describe surviving characters' futures, maybe that type of closure wouldn't be as satisfying as a truly dramatic end to the Harry Potter series as a summary of his life. Well, I really hope he survives. I think.

Harry is like my Favourite Character. I think the story will end with Harry finding all the Horcruxes and then meeting Voldemort in some place with all the Death Eaters there and Harry kills Voldemort off.
Keep Fingers crossed that Harry will live.

No way Harry dies. The entire Potter fandom would rise up and JKR would have to go into hiding.
My theory is that the whole "love is the strongest magic" will come back in force in the end. Ginny especially will probably play a big part in this along side Hermione and Ron. JKR has made such an effort to build this committed circle of friends around Harry (Hagrid, McGonagle, Neville, Luna, Mr and Mrs Weasley, Dumbledore (who I am not convinced is really dead)) that there is a strong "loving" circle around him. With (again) Ron, Hermione, and Ginny being the strongest links now.
Of course, JKR could do a Star Trek ending and have Harry die and the love of his friends bring him back? You never know!

The 41% who agree he'll sacrifice himself have a good foundation of reasoning, seeing as that is a major theme throughout the book and a significantly moving conclusion to the series.
But I really really hope he survives!
