JK Rowling's star wizard will die by the end of her Harry Potter book series, according to a 53% majority of over 15,000 votes cast in HPANA's informal poll. Most fans indicated Harry would sacrifice himself to save loved ones before the end of book seven.
We asked, "Will Harry Potter survive the series and become an adult?"
Here's the rundown as of this story (voting is still open):
41%: No, he'll sacrifice himself to save his loved ones.
29%: Yes, they all live happily ever after.
12%: Yes (for some other reason).
9%: No. If he's not killed, Jo will be hounded to write more.
5%: Yes, though it'll be at St. Mungo's.
2%: No (for some other reason).
The author has playfully hinted -- more than once -- at her leading character's unsure future (at least as far as fans are concerned; Rowling herself knows exactly how the series will end, having already written the final chapter).
We can only wonder if Jo voted in the poll, sometime between taking care of her newborn daughter and sealing up plans for the release of her highly anticipated sixth novel, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. (I just hope he's not whacked by evil French Deatheather Guillaume de Broggy in a deadly duel.)
UPDATE: The Sun (UK newspaper) mentioned this poll in an article

Ahhhh! Sorry for double post - didn't see an edit.
Novel can still stop at 7 even though Potter lives, since stories in general aren't much fun if an Antagonist is missing. Likewise, even if Potter does die, it is possible still through some deus ex machina that he is revived so that JRK can continue making certain fans happy or/and making money off the franchise

She is already the richest woman in England so I don't think money will be a motivator. Especially if you read interviews with her about money. She seems almost embarrased by her dollar value.
I think she loves her family and she loves writing but she does does seem to feel more loyalty to her stories and themes than to her characters (which is how it should be). So I think she will focus on the story-telling more than implausible "bring the loved character back to life" types of endings.
She is definitely going to have the opportunity to throw some bean balls at her readers in book 7 and I get the feeling she won't pull any punches. No one will be safe!!!

I don't care what anyone says. I refuse to believe that Harry will die (call it denial if you must, but I think it's just hope). Still, if he were to die, I also think he would die saving someone else.

I dont want Harry to die, but i got a feeling he will cos there have been a lot of suprises in the past books so... its possible. if he does he'll be back with his parents :) i've just got a feeeling he will sacrifice himself to save his loved ones, cos that is what Harry would do, but i dont want him to die, i wouldn't stop cying! :'(
After all, its a good ending if he sacrifices his life but the fact that he dies is just hard to accept :(

can he LIVE and DIE? well, she's a talented writer, so maybe he'll die, then Hermione will use a time turner...no, wait, that's too close to repeating PoA, and that would stink, but JKR is so imaginative, guaranteed she'll put together something NO-ONE will have foreseen. Ever wonder if she reads the fan sites and goes "oh, dang, WAS going to do that, but somebody in Uzbekestan guessed it, so now I have to re-write that part!" hee hee

I guess the good thing about being the author is that you can do whatever you want. but it will be really hard to please all of the fans everywhere. but i'm sure that whatever she writes will come out fantastic.

I wish she would write more, you know? I mean I wish she would write Harry Potter books when he is outside school. Like who he would marry and if he would have kids. That is my opinion. I love Harry Potter books more than any books I have ever read. I especially like the actor who plays Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe. I think he is a kind of person who deserves to be famous from all of the clips and interviews that I have watched and read. Go Daniel Radcliffe, J.K. Rowlings, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and everyone else!

Ok Excuse me WHAT?!?! When did JK Rowling give hints about killing Harry Potter? And SO WHAT if the fans hound her to write more if Harry lives. She could just ignore all that and say "That's the end! No more!" I mean she doesnt have to kill Harry! Jeeze!

I would think that as a quality writer, JK Rowling has to want to move on to new topics. Although Harry has been good to her, she has GOT to have other ideas for stories flying around in her head that she wants to get onto paper.
I don't know about you but I would love for her to create a totally new universe beyond Harry. She has created a great beginning, middle, and I have no doubt an end to the Harry series. Leave it at that and move on! Her next stories may be even better than these! Give the woman some room to work!
Wouldn't Stephen King be boring if he had written 10 books about Carrie (his first real hit) and nothing else?

Could it be possible that Harry is a horcrux? After all Voldemort put magic into Harry and there was supposed to be something from Gryffindor so why not Harry? What do you think?
