The British
and American
publishers of Harry Potter have posted the jacket covers for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The children's British versions by Jason Cockcroft, shows Harry and Dumbledore in rings of fire and the adult version is from a photograph by Michael Wildsmith showing a tattered book called Advanced Potion-Making.
The Scholastic cover by Mary GrandPré was debuted this morning on NBC's Today
show (click for video!). On the American edition, Harry and Dumbledore are looking into what seems to be a pensive.
Click here for all three covers (biggest available online).
Update: Read Raincoast Books' press release
, Scholastic's press release
, and Bloomsbury's press release
. Also, see this photo of artist Mary GrandPré at her studio
with the book cover on her desk.

Oh my god!!!! i have been waiting for this day (don't ask me why). i don't know if i like it as much as the other book covers. in the UK version dumbledore looks like he's having a heart attack... hmmm.... wow our version (US) is very green. kinda like OOTP was all blue. ah well, it's the content that matters. and judging by the cover the content will probably rock.

I was getting dresses this morning and my mom was calling me. She was like "AMY!!! COME HERE!!!" I was like, "hold on!" I was just in my undies! And then she was like "HURRY UP!!" I had to hurry up and throw on a robe and I ran into the living room and I saw it. I was like "OH MY GOSH!" I looks awesome! But I still have no clue what the book is going to be about. Besides a HBP!

Wow! So that's Harry and Dumbledore in action (I'm referring to the British children's cover here). Cool. And from the Scholastic cover we can conclude that Harry and Dumbledore might have a closer relationship than we could hope for after OotP. At least they seem to work together... maybe on Occlumency? And I never doubted Harry would be in advanced Potions. I guess, either he will get an O on his O.W.L.s or Dumbledore makes Snape DADA teacher and Hogwarts gets a new Potions master... or Dumbledore/McGonagall force Snape to take Harry in his class. Anyway, I'm so excited!

Wow! That made my day! From what I can gather from the cover, Harry looks very determined to see whatever is in the Pensive because of the way he's holding his wand- I'm looking for any clues of what it could be...

Now if only July 16th would hurry and come, everything would be great! It's interesting to see how the artists evolve Harry's looks over time.

FINALLY!!!
I suppose we've earned this; waiting and reading and posting for months. My favorite is the Scholastic one. I hope the adult UK version means that Harry is going to take up Potions again... then he'll be on his way to be an Auror!!!

I am just wondering if there is any signifigance to the wand hands? I notice Harry has the wand in his left (wrong) hand on the American cover, but in the right on the UK one? Perhaps just for better visual composition.
I also notice how much OLDER Harry suddenly looks on the UK cover!
