With just over 100 days until the July 16 release of JK Rowling's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, U.S. publisher Scholastic is preparing a multimillion dollar marketing blitz
to stir up excitement.
At the 50 day mark on May 27, Scholastic will ship 40,000 of these countdown clock standees (334KB JPG image) to bookstores.
The base theme message "Who Is The Half-Blood Prince?" will appear on airplane video screens, electronic billboards, and online. The New York Times on July 10 will run a crossword puzzle dedicated to the book. Fans will also receive lightning-bolt scars at midnight with their books.

The scars would be really cool. You would see loads of people walking rounf with random scars. If scholastic are printing 10.4 million copies hom much are Bloomsbury printing?

One wouldn't think that Scolastic has to go to all this trouble since Harry Potter is so popular! However, all of this advertising probably does increase sales.
It will be fun for the fans to see more images, ads,a Time Square Billboard and a NY Times crossword puzzle!
Harry Potter will continue to be "the boy that lived",
the most famous person in the world.

Ooo la la. Those are really nifty...I wish I could have one for myself, actually. I would totally save it. As a matter of fact...I'll ask my local B&N to have theirs when they're done. Well, I'm blathering. But I'm excited. Before you know it the summer will be here and it'll be a week away, then a few days, and then we'll lock ourselves in our rooms for a few days. Some of us will be done within a few hours. ^_^
