British tabloid The Mail on Sunday
states in article today that Katie Leung, the 17-year-old Scottish actress playing Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has become "a hate figure for obsessive fans" on the Internet.
In the article titled Harry Potter and the Poisoned Chalice the author goes on to say “cores of fake websites have sprung up, some apparently giving her thoughts and feelings in diary form. There are photographs purporting to be of Katie, and many are of obviously older, more experienced girls in revealing poses. Most disturbing are several 'hate Katie' sites where youngsters are encouraged to explain in graphic detail why they loathe the dark-haired beauty."
Katie’s father is quoted as saying:
I have seen these sites. I have looked at every one of them. It is rather frightening when you see things like "hate Katie." It is incredible, really. I can't make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is. Katie is only 17 and hasn't even appeared on film. No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are all these things on the Internet. Unfortunately I know she has seen them, too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her. With these websites, I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out. In a way I'm dreading it. She's been told she mustn't give interviews or speak to anybody until the producers say it's time. It's all happened so fast.

It's really absurd to hate HER because she'd going to play Cho. Is that it? I hate Cho, I'll admit that, but I hate her as a character, just because I don't think she serves much of a purpose except to bring Marietta in to RUIN everything.
But yeah, hating Katie herself is just ridiculous. We haven't even seen the movie!

I thought that Cho Chang would look a lot younger and more softer...if you know what I mean. However, I don't like that people talk about the actress. WE don't know her. I'm not saying I don't like her, but she's not who I picture, but I won't knock her. There are a lot of things in these movies that aren't how I pictured them, so I'm giving her a chance. GO KATIE!

Some people are totally insane! How would you feel if you found a site by someone you didn't even know saying how stupid you were and how everyone should hate you? Katie, if you read this, I bet you're doing a great job and if people are trying to ruin it for you, they're probably just jealous. Some people these days!

I just have to voice my opinion in this matter, too. I think it's very wrong of people to be throwing around words like "hate" when they don't know Katie personally. Not to mention no one has seen her act yet. I feel sorry for people who have to be so cruel and mean to people, actor or an every day person. I can't wait to see GoF and all of the new characters.
On a different note, I'm a little worried about comments previous posters have made about things in GoF that don't happen until OotP ... I guess I'll treat it like a rumor so I don't get too upset over nothing.

The only school things I've done was a Social Studies project where we made hats representing forgein countries, and , of course, chose the United Kingdom. That was a lot of fun, though.

I'm sure Jo is furious with these websites and very disappointed in all these kids (and adults, whose behavior is so childish) for acting so jealous and spiteful and bitter. I'm sure she would expect better from the fans of her series which promotes fairness and honor. I can't think of anything less honorable than the actions this article describes.
These people should be ashamed of themselves. If they're intelligent enough to know what that means.
