British tabloid The Mail on Sunday
states in article today that Katie Leung, the 17-year-old Scottish actress playing Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has become "a hate figure for obsessive fans" on the Internet.
In the article titled Harry Potter and the Poisoned Chalice the author goes on to say “cores of fake websites have sprung up, some apparently giving her thoughts and feelings in diary form. There are photographs purporting to be of Katie, and many are of obviously older, more experienced girls in revealing poses. Most disturbing are several 'hate Katie' sites where youngsters are encouraged to explain in graphic detail why they loathe the dark-haired beauty."
Katie’s father is quoted as saying:
I have seen these sites. I have looked at every one of them. It is rather frightening when you see things like "hate Katie." It is incredible, really. I can't make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is. Katie is only 17 and hasn't even appeared on film. No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are all these things on the Internet. Unfortunately I know she has seen them, too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her. With these websites, I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out. In a way I'm dreading it. She's been told she mustn't give interviews or speak to anybody until the producers say it's time. It's all happened so fast.

Wow what a horrible thing to do, i just don't get why people would do such stupid things like this. She's an actor 'playing' Cho, she's not really Cho, Cho is just a character out of a book, people really need to understand that!

They are just jealous and need to realize that saying these things doesn't help anyone. Probably part of the reason for this is the young age of the people involved. The people who put up "hate websites" on Katie are just as bad as those groups who ban the HP books because they supposedly promote witchcraft. Similar to these radical religious groups burning HP books without even reading it, the Katie Leung haters are trashing her life & reputation by not even seeing her work. These people just bring other positive HP fans down.

I completely agree with some of these opinions saying that it is horrible and slightly sickening. I agree with the first person. saying that she isnt what i pictured, but she is the chosen Cho, and she is pretty, and she does not deserve to be ridiculed by obsessed Dan or Harry fans.
You should think being in a multi million dollar film like this would be a good thing? Wouldnt you?

I feel bad for her if this is happening, but then again, you never know the truth when you read a British tabloid, and I'm not so desperate for information that I'm going to waste my time googling her name. I hope that if she is mature enough to act in the film, she is also mature enough to ignore negativity stemming from jealousy, of course, that's if this article contains truth.

Well yes we all know that hate sites are very unpleasent but I think Katie's dad needs to know that there are hate sites for almost every celeb in this world. It's not just Katie that people are picking on! So they should just ignore it all, they're really not worth looking at.

Oh, that's terrible! I may be absessed, but I know when to draw the line. Hate sites are not funny, and are oviously upsetting for her and her family - it seems extremely unfair, especially as no-one has seen her play Cho yet. The important thing to bear in mind here is the shocking fact that...she is NOT Cho! She is an actress! (And I'm sure it's blasphemy to say so on this site, but Cho is not real either, and neither is the Harry she upset, as much as I would like to believe it is all real!) Keep your grip on reality, people! At least to the extent that it doesn't cause hurt to others!

I pictured Choc Chang a bit different too, but I have that with more characters, so... This is no reason to put up a hate site! Maybe those people just rather hate the character of Cho Chang in the books, the way she is to Harry?
I don't know, but I think it is really hard for Katie Leung, I hope she doesn't feel hurt too much, and doesn't put of the film or anything else just because of some people who have to act real childish.
