British tabloid The Mail on Sunday
states in article today that Katie Leung, the 17-year-old Scottish actress playing Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has become "a hate figure for obsessive fans" on the Internet.
In the article titled Harry Potter and the Poisoned Chalice the author goes on to say “cores of fake websites have sprung up, some apparently giving her thoughts and feelings in diary form. There are photographs purporting to be of Katie, and many are of obviously older, more experienced girls in revealing poses. Most disturbing are several 'hate Katie' sites where youngsters are encouraged to explain in graphic detail why they loathe the dark-haired beauty."
Katie’s father is quoted as saying:
I have seen these sites. I have looked at every one of them. It is rather frightening when you see things like "hate Katie." It is incredible, really. I can't make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is. Katie is only 17 and hasn't even appeared on film. No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are all these things on the Internet. Unfortunately I know she has seen them, too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her. With these websites, I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out. In a way I'm dreading it. She's been told she mustn't give interviews or speak to anybody until the producers say it's time. It's all happened so fast.

Shes not what I pictured Cho Chang to look like, I would like it better if it were someone who I thought fit the discription but I would never say I hate her.. I dont even know her. I feel bad for her, but I guess she should have expected it, anyone joining the cast this year should have.

The picture may not of been very clear, but it's obivious she's a lovely looking girl, & she must of been something special about her or she wouldn't of beaten all those thousands of other girls would she? The people behide those other sites are sad vinditive little people who really should get more instead of bullying a 17yr old who hasn't done a thing to them!

It's totally pathetic for hate sites to be set up anyway, regardless of the fact that no-one has seen her in a HP film yet.
I hope she enjoys her experiences in HP films and good luck to her whether she continues a career in acting or not.

That is really horrible. Get a chance at a dream and then other less fortunate people try to ruin it. Unfortunately, people like that exist in everything. I don't like Cho in the books at all, but I have nothing against the actress thats going to play her.
I don't like Percy either, but Chris Rankin seems pretty cool.
I'm afraid that she's just going to have to learn how to deal with the fact that there are always going to be haters out there and as long as there are no attempts to harm her physical well being, there is probably not much she can do.

Actually from the small picture, I was under the impression she looked much older than 17, but when I went to the large scan of it, I think she actually looks the part and has some "Cho" in her :) I may be one of the few fans who thinks she is good for the part- I have more of a problem with the girl playing Fleur.

I've visited one of the "hate Katie" sites, and they just prattle on about how she isn't pretty enough or complain that she has a slightly flat nose (um, hello? she's Chinese - it isn't that uncommon). Personally, I think she's quite attractive - even though she wasn't exactly what I was thinking for Cho. But, it wasn't my decision. I'm sure she can act, or she wouldn't have been cast. I bet she does a great job and will fit the role beautifully!
