British tabloid The Mail on Sunday
states in article today that Katie Leung, the 17-year-old Scottish actress playing Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has become "a hate figure for obsessive fans" on the Internet.
In the article titled Harry Potter and the Poisoned Chalice the author goes on to say “cores of fake websites have sprung up, some apparently giving her thoughts and feelings in diary form. There are photographs purporting to be of Katie, and many are of obviously older, more experienced girls in revealing poses. Most disturbing are several 'hate Katie' sites where youngsters are encouraged to explain in graphic detail why they loathe the dark-haired beauty."
Katie’s father is quoted as saying:
I have seen these sites. I have looked at every one of them. It is rather frightening when you see things like "hate Katie." It is incredible, really. I can't make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is. Katie is only 17 and hasn't even appeared on film. No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are all these things on the Internet. Unfortunately I know she has seen them, too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her. With these websites, I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out. In a way I'm dreading it. She's been told she mustn't give interviews or speak to anybody until the producers say it's time. It's all happened so fast.

It's so sad that some people are insecure enough to lash out at someone of whom they are jealous. I've visited one of the "hate Katie" sites, and they just prattle on about how she isn't pretty enough or complain that she has a slightly flat nose (um, hello? she's Chinese - it isn't that uncommon). Personally, I think she's quite attractive - even though she wasn't exactly what I was thinking for Cho. But, it wasn't my decision. I'm sure she can act, or she wouldn't have been cast. I bet she does a great job and will fit the role beautifully!

On the other hand she is not how I pictured Cho Chang. Thats why I am not the director though, and know when I can have an opinion over an emotion.

I think its horrible that people are taking this seriously. Its not like I dont like Katie, I dont even know her, its that I dont like Cho. Lots of people dont like Cho so I dont know what she was expecting from the fans. Its like Dumbledore says to Hagrid. "If you are holding out for universal popularity, I'm afraid you will be waiting a long time." Or something like that.

Well, she isn't what I would have pictured (honestly, it's like the casting people haven't read the books, and maybe they haven't), but oh well. I don't think Cho is really Harry's type either way but I don't really NOT like, I'm pretty tolerant to most characters in a book anyways, just not the bloody annoying ones... :S

I think those sites should be shut down because they don't know what she is like, if she's a good actress or a bad one, what she will sound like or anything. I will reseve judgment about her until I see her acting skills.

It's okay to hate a character, that's what they're there for. To hate or love as you see fit. But to hate an actress or actor because you hate the character they portray shows a lack of maturity and is just plain wrong.

I fell so bad for her, I hope she doesn't take it seriously. I guess it is true what Lockhart says:Fame really IS a fickle friend. Here whebn she should be so excited about landing a huge role in one of the biggest movie series of our generation-she is having to deal with this immature and ignorant harassment. Worse even-she hasn't even had a chance to say anything or to show her talent!! I feel horrible for her!! She is not alone in this harassment either. I was searching pics on the web(for photobucket to make avvies with) and found a cropped picture of Emma on a naked body of an older woman. It's disgusting!!! These actresses and actors are still kids!! Leave them be!! Sorry about the rant-but this sort of thing make me sick. As a fan I am embarressed.

I went to one of those anti-Katie sites, and they are truly horrible and full of the hate they so aptly boast of. She isn't exactly what I pictured Cho to look like, but none of the characters are; not even Dan Radcliffe. I pictured every character differently than they are being portrayed, but that's the way it; since everyone pictures them differently.
Hopefully, this will all blow over and she can enjoy the excitement of earning an amazing role in a huge movie that millions will see.
To Katie, I say, forget all those haters, they're everywhere; but not stooping to their level of childishness to reply with anger and hate; makes you a better, stronger person.

Well, that kind of behaviour is worrying. The poor girl has done nothing wrong, and even if she had there is no reason to mate 'hate Katie' websites. These should be deleted.
