British tabloid The Mail on Sunday
states in article today that Katie Leung, the 17-year-old Scottish actress playing Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has become "a hate figure for obsessive fans" on the Internet.
In the article titled Harry Potter and the Poisoned Chalice the author goes on to say “cores of fake websites have sprung up, some apparently giving her thoughts and feelings in diary form. There are photographs purporting to be of Katie, and many are of obviously older, more experienced girls in revealing poses. Most disturbing are several 'hate Katie' sites where youngsters are encouraged to explain in graphic detail why they loathe the dark-haired beauty."
Katie’s father is quoted as saying:
I have seen these sites. I have looked at every one of them. It is rather frightening when you see things like "hate Katie." It is incredible, really. I can't make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is. Katie is only 17 and hasn't even appeared on film. No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are all these things on the Internet. Unfortunately I know she has seen them, too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her. With these websites, I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out. In a way I'm dreading it. She's been told she mustn't give interviews or speak to anybody until the producers say it's time. It's all happened so fast.

i hope katie doesn't take all this to heart, which
is difficult. when we see the movie, i bet those "obsessive fans" will eat their websites and apologize. what they're doing is so completely wrong.

Although, I'm guessing most of the people who hate Katie are younguns...most likely girls who are overly obsessed with Dan but I still don't see that as an excuse whatsoever.
I will say that most of the people who hate Katie must also hate Cho. I mean....if you've been on these messageboards you would definitely be able to pick up on the fact that she's not a popular character. So perhaps that has something to do with it. But again, this is no excuse for that sort of behavior. Do not confuse reality with Harry Potter, if you do you got a huge problem on your hands.
The racist comments are probably what most incenses me though. Can't believe that other Asian people are being racist towards her though. I mean she's Chinese, do we need to do a blood quantum? "Too Eastern looking"???? Come on.... some people take this tooo dang seriously.
I say squash the haters!!! I hope Katie knows that these people do NOT represent all Harry Potter fans. I hope she proves 'em all wrong when the movie comes out! Go on ahead Katie!

Yes, I think this whole thing is getting a bit out of control. I personally am not fond of her because she is simply not the Cho Chang I imagined. However, I am hoping that I will be proved wrong when I watch the movie though.

People can be so narrow minded, No where in the books does it saw that Cho has any kind of accent, I would expect her to be of Asian origin but living in England or Scottland because Hogwarts takes students from the UK not asia as far as I'm aware. Which would give her a scottish or English accent.
I think its time these jelouse, obssesed idiots to get over it and wait for the movie instead of pre-judging her.
