British tabloid The Mail on Sunday
states in article today that Katie Leung, the 17-year-old Scottish actress playing Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has become "a hate figure for obsessive fans" on the Internet.
In the article titled Harry Potter and the Poisoned Chalice the author goes on to say “cores of fake websites have sprung up, some apparently giving her thoughts and feelings in diary form. There are photographs purporting to be of Katie, and many are of obviously older, more experienced girls in revealing poses. Most disturbing are several 'hate Katie' sites where youngsters are encouraged to explain in graphic detail why they loathe the dark-haired beauty."
Katie’s father is quoted as saying:
I have seen these sites. I have looked at every one of them. It is rather frightening when you see things like "hate Katie." It is incredible, really. I can't make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is. Katie is only 17 and hasn't even appeared on film. No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are all these things on the Internet. Unfortunately I know she has seen them, too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her. With these websites, I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out. In a way I'm dreading it. She's been told she mustn't give interviews or speak to anybody until the producers say it's time. It's all happened so fast.

I think these people should leave her alone. Even though I don't think that she is the best choice for Cho at least give her a chance. If she is a horrible actor than she wouldn't have been picked to play Cho. I can understand why people get angry at Katie. I wanted the part of Cho very badly and I am chinese and looks like the exact description of Cho but I was too young(Cho is supposed to be old than Harry) and besides I didn't even try out for the part because I was shy so i couldn't have expected a person to come out and just offer me the part. I think most of them are just jealous of Katie but they really need to back off! But since there is not a lot,if any, interviews of Katie, people don't know a lot of her so they just think of her as the girl who plays Cho and starts being jealous. I'm jealous too but its not Katie's faught that she gets to play Cho. Somebody has to and if you think she should be prettier, be happy she's not because if she is.....will I don't even want to think about it because I love Dan SO much.

I actually thought about trying too,
but at the moment, my hair is curly, and I don't have a
British accent, so my hopes were low.
Anyways, I really feel sorry for the girl
who was lucky enough to be picked as Cho Chang.
I don't like Chang as a character, but I don't hate the actor
because I don't even know her. People, please be considerate
and don't hate her.

This is very sad, If I had anything to say to this young lady who is only playing a part in a film, I would say 'if you're getting hate mail because you play Cho just think of how much hate mail Fiennes is getting because he plays Voldemort, don't take it personal, it will get better, I hope other actors give her some support.

I think that iould be awsome to be Cho Chang. The people who hate her are just jealous of her. I am jealous too because I would have loved to get the part but i dont look anything like Chos description in the book and im also jealous because Harry (Daniel) Has to like Cho and I want him to like me.
If they kiss and hold hands in the fifth movie then I wont hate Cho, Ill just not like her becuse of my jealousy.

Perhaps people are seeing this picture and trying to guess what her personality is like from that. I don't think that is fair. The picture represents a split second in her life. She shouldn't be judged by it. Everybody has bad pictures taken of them from time to time. The really important thing to any real HP fan is whether she can act and we won't know that until the movie comes out.

Honestly, as a starting actress myself, I'd really prefer if people would watch me do my stuff and THEN judge me rather than just say, "Oh, she's new. Let's hate her!" (and not give me callbacks... dang them) And hating her for playing Cho is like hating Tom for playing Draco, but, uh, I see he has PLENTY of fan clubs. Go, Katie!

If this is true, and the tabloid (let's remember, it is a tabloid) is reporting in earnest, then this is incredabley pathetic.
That people would aim their hatred at an innocent teenage actress because they either don't like the character or don't think she looks enough like the character is really quite sickening.

Ok...she doesn't look like I imagined, and I have to say that in the Hp books, one of my worst characters is Cho. However, as much as I wanted no-one to take the part of Cho, which could end up with the chance to kiss Dan...I think it's awful that people are setting up "hate Katie" websites. They should be ashamed...
