British tabloid The Mail on Sunday
states in article today that Katie Leung, the 17-year-old Scottish actress playing Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has become "a hate figure for obsessive fans" on the Internet.
In the article titled Harry Potter and the Poisoned Chalice the author goes on to say “cores of fake websites have sprung up, some apparently giving her thoughts and feelings in diary form. There are photographs purporting to be of Katie, and many are of obviously older, more experienced girls in revealing poses. Most disturbing are several 'hate Katie' sites where youngsters are encouraged to explain in graphic detail why they loathe the dark-haired beauty."
Katie’s father is quoted as saying:
I have seen these sites. I have looked at every one of them. It is rather frightening when you see things like "hate Katie." It is incredible, really. I can't make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is. Katie is only 17 and hasn't even appeared on film. No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are all these things on the Internet. Unfortunately I know she has seen them, too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her. With these websites, I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out. In a way I'm dreading it. She's been told she mustn't give interviews or speak to anybody until the producers say it's time. It's all happened so fast.

I think she will play a just fine Cho Chang. It might help, though, if people aren't putting her down before they've even given her a chance. That's not very fair. I'm sure they wouldn't have casted her if she was such a horrible person/actor as a lot of people are saying.

Jealous fans have started a Hate-Katie site on the internet just because she gets to kiss Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire film.
Messages branding her ugly - some even with racist comments - have been posted on some sites.
The teenager stars as Harry's girlfriend Cho Chang in the film which is due to be released in November.
But spiteful girl fans say she is not right for the role.
Katie's dad Peter said the attacks are frightening for him and his family.
He said: 'I have seen these sites.
'I have looked at every one of them.
'It is rather frightening when you see things like 'hate Kate'It is incredible really. I can't make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is.
'Katie is only 17 and hasn't even appeared on film.
'No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are these things on the internet.
'Unfortunately, I know she has seen them too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her.
'I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out.

Katie won the part last year after a worldwide search for an unknown actress.
She landed the role ahead of former Neighbours star Michelle Ang at a Glasgow audition in February.
At the time, her dad, sister and two brothers said it was a dream job. But some fans are not happy at the casting.
One message says: 'I've hated Katie Leung ever since I saw her.'
Another reads: 'I hate her because she is stupid, dumb, an idiot and gets to play Cho Chang in the Goblet Of Fire. Oh and she gets to kiss Daniel Radcliffe.'
Warner Bros, who make the Harry Potter films, have tried to shield Katie ahead of the release of the movie.
It is not the first time she has had to deal with obsessed Potter fans.
When her role was first announced, she had people camped outside her house in a bid to get a glimpse of her.
Fake pictures were also posted on the internet.
Peter said then: 'I'm very proud of her but it is all very sudden, all very strange and very confusing.

I too think that these people need to get a life and stop bashing Katie, but I also think that these reporters, and Katie’s dad need to look on the other side of the internet.
There are two fansites that are dedicated to her, being Katie Leung Online and Lucky Rabbit. I think that they have no excuse to be complaining when both these sites obtain equal amounts of traffic each day. At least there are some fans that actually care about her, and do not care about her looks or acting, as of yet.

I am really disappointed that so many "fans" have chosen to act as such. Hopefully, Katie's family foundation is as strong and supportive and Dan's, Emma's and Rupert's. Sounds like her father is there for her and she will have to count on that. I'm sure she's smart enough to know that none of this is real, even if the "fans" can't tell the difference between reality and fiction. Katie is not Cho Chang anymore than Robbie Coltrane is Hagrid! These are actors people! If you believe they are who they portray in the films, then they have done their job. But they do not become their characters at home (I HOPE!) And yes, that goes for Dan too. Believe it or not, Dan is not really Harry Potter! As for her being pretty, I've only seen two pictures of her and she looks attractive to me. Even Dan said she was pretty. Leave the girl alone!

Of course, people hated Vivien Leigh when she got chosen as Scarlett O'Hara (because she was not only not from the South, but she wasn't even American), and she proved them all wrong. People need to save their opinions of Katie until after we see the film.

She must be good to have been chosen for the role. I think she's gonna do great and I hope she doesn't take people's negativity and jealousy too close to heart.

I feel sorry for this girl, she has two bad situation in this movie, one being Cho who is a character hated by many people, people should differentiate between the character and the real person, she is not Cho, and Cho doesn't exist, and the other bad part is all the Dan's fans who get mad and jealous every time any girl gets closer to Dan.
Let’s not forget that he is a guy who eventually will find a girl if he doesn’t have one yet, that will make him happy.
