British tabloid The Mail on Sunday
states in article today that Katie Leung, the 17-year-old Scottish actress playing Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has become "a hate figure for obsessive fans" on the Internet.
In the article titled Harry Potter and the Poisoned Chalice the author goes on to say “cores of fake websites have sprung up, some apparently giving her thoughts and feelings in diary form. There are photographs purporting to be of Katie, and many are of obviously older, more experienced girls in revealing poses. Most disturbing are several 'hate Katie' sites where youngsters are encouraged to explain in graphic detail why they loathe the dark-haired beauty."
Katie’s father is quoted as saying:
I have seen these sites. I have looked at every one of them. It is rather frightening when you see things like "hate Katie." It is incredible, really. I can't make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is. Katie is only 17 and hasn't even appeared on film. No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are all these things on the Internet. Unfortunately I know she has seen them, too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her. With these websites, I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out. In a way I'm dreading it. She's been told she mustn't give interviews or speak to anybody until the producers say it's time. It's all happened so fast.

That's very rude of people to judge Katie, before they even see the movie. She'll probably do a fantastic job playing Cho. (Since I'm not at all attracted to Daniel Radcliffe, there's no way I'm jealous of her).

Well that is really scary when you are being that hated. Yet I think Katie is professional enough to cope with all that pressure. I just don't know why people would do those kinds of web sites. That is just wrong. Anyway I bet that she will be spectacular in the new Harry Potter movie and that all of us will be satisfied with our Cho Chang.

Holy over-dramatizing!
Anyway, I do believe that there is a very small minority of fans (probably more Dan fans than Harry fans, if I may say) who "hate" Katie because they envy her role opposite Dan, but come on! These people are obviously very immature and sad individuals. I think Mr. Leung is right to have some concern considering the crazy world we live in, but it is likely this happens to a lot of actors who portray "villains" (I don't see Cho as a villian, personally, but even from the posts I see here, some do) and it probably comes with the territory a bit. I say the bonus of being part of the HP film world should lift Katie above all this pettiness. I look forward to seeing her acting debut in November!

Gosh, people out there can be so cruel. Katie's just there to do her job, and then people just attacked. It's so wrong. I feel really sorry for her, and I wish her the best of luck when the movie comes out. Maybe Warner Bros. really shouldn't put the kiss scene in the movie. It is a good part of the book, but if it's going to hurt or enrage people, it shouldn't be in the movie. I don't know, I guess this is part of the acting job. To put up with all the stupid people out there.

What's so sad is that even Cho as a character has never even really done anything wrong. Sure were all a little tired of the way things are between she and Harry. But, come on, she's still a good guy, right? Where are all the Tom Felton and Bill Nighy haters? Oh yeah, there are none. Katie is an actor........that's all. Maybe she's not exactly what everyone had imagined, but that person doesn't exist. Who knows....I hope she's wonderful!!!

Besides she is sort of what I pictured cho chang, not exactly, but you can't expect perfect. Like lupin and sirius, the two actors playing then are great, but they weren't exactly how I pictured those two actors. But in the end the movie came out great.
I for one look forward to seeing how Miss Leung does with the part.
