Theif tries to sell 'Potter' book

UK papers report on role in 'HBP' theft Popular (18735)

Tabloid UK newspapers The Sunopens in new window and The Daily Mirroropens in new window talk about their involvement in yesterday's reported theft of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and the ensuing events:

The Daily Mirror says they were "approached by a security guard who worked at a distribution warehouse. Burly Aarron Lambert, 19, demanded £30,000 for a sneak look" at the book. The Sun claimed the theif (who they name as Arun) wanted £50,000 and that a gun was fired during their clandestine meeting.

And [Lambert] was soon boasting how he had evaded massive security. "It was very hard," he said. "They've even got foreign contract workers in there so the staff don't know what it's all about. The whole warehouse is on camera - I had to be really careful. I planned it for weeks. They're doing everything they can to stop people getting hold of it. But they couldn't stop me."

With much thanks to DanRadcliffe.comopens in new window, we have scans of everything:

Police confirmed last night that Lambert and his 37-year-old accomplice (pictured in that last photo) had been arrested.

JK Rowling has obtained a court order aimed at preventing the men from divulging any content of the book before its release.

If you ask me, they're pretty dumb to think that they could get away with stealing one of the books in the first place, but then trying to sell it? If they wanted to keep it afterwards to read it (which I highly doubt was why they stole it to begin with), then they shouldn't have tried to sell it to some dumb tabloid. Did they really expect to get away with this?

I really can't wait for the book to come out but i wouldn't go and try to steal it I have a bit more self control then that. I guess some people are so into Harry Potter they would go to jail just to get a look at the book.

:) I'm glad there are 328 posts on how stupid people are about books. Anyone who would pay 50,000 pounds is retarted when they can wait two more months and pay A LOT less.

Why is it that people are so money motivated they would potentially ruin the surprise of what happens in HBP? I'm just as curious as the next person and want the book NOW, but I wouldn't steal it or sell it to a tabloid to print the major plot points and mess the surprise. Those people should get a huge fine and go to jail for stupidity and greediness in the first degree.

I just love the idea of all of us, all over the world sitting with our noses in HBP on 16th July totally engrossed, silent, reading.

Anyone who threatens to ruin that experience by revealing plot points or selling the book to the papers to print should be thrown in jail and the key locked up in Gringotts vault for ever!!

Theres this show in Australia called Rove Live, I think that they show it in NZ as well, but his opening segment was about this exact thing ... Its generally a really cool show, but he was taking the micky out big time! It was funny but i was offended at the same time ... Is that possible. Anyway my reasoning for posting again is that he was saying that they were holding it for ransom to the publishers ... Thats not right is it?
