Theif tries to sell 'Potter' book

UK papers report on role in 'HBP' theft Popular (18739)

Tabloid UK newspapers The Sunopens in new window and The Daily Mirroropens in new window talk about their involvement in yesterday's reported theft of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and the ensuing events:

The Daily Mirror says they were "approached by a security guard who worked at a distribution warehouse. Burly Aarron Lambert, 19, demanded £30,000 for a sneak look" at the book. The Sun claimed the theif (who they name as Arun) wanted £50,000 and that a gun was fired during their clandestine meeting.

And [Lambert] was soon boasting how he had evaded massive security. "It was very hard," he said. "They've even got foreign contract workers in there so the staff don't know what it's all about. The whole warehouse is on camera - I had to be really careful. I planned it for weeks. They're doing everything they can to stop people getting hold of it. But they couldn't stop me."

With much thanks to DanRadcliffe.comopens in new window, we have scans of everything:

Police confirmed last night that Lambert and his 37-year-old accomplice (pictured in that last photo) had been arrested.

JK Rowling has obtained a court order aimed at preventing the men from divulging any content of the book before its release.

Dude, I think it's so funny that people are that obsessed with this book. It's insane. I mean, if it was any other book, no one would really care right? They wouldn't put it in newspapers... they probably wouldn't even put it on the news. But no, since it's Harry Potter, half of the world goes crazy over it.

That's horibble! I hope that none of the information on the book gets revealed; I want to read it without knowing the ending!

I know that when it comes time for the book to come out (like, a couple of weeks before hand) and the different companies that review books have read it and start to talk about it, I tend to duck my head and plug my ears. I DON'T WANT TO KNOW IN ADVACE! How rude. And stealing is never okay. If I wrote a book and poured my heart and soul into it and then it was stolen, I'd be heartbroken. It must be very hard to be Jo sometimes.

Geez, impatient much? Well, so are we, but that doesn't mean that you have to steal a copy rather than wait for it to come out. And they didn't even steal it to read it, they stole it to sell it, which is completely moronic. I'm just glad that they didn't delay the release of the book because of this.

Crazy the extent some people go to!
Although we did get a nice snapshot of the actual book, and I must say it looks nice! Roughly GoF size, i would go as far as saying perfect.

Yeah, yeah, I don't think these two thugs could get past the first page of HBP, what with all the big words and all.

The Sun and Mirror articles had me laughing out loud -- holy over-dramatizing! It is definitely a bit much that these desparate fellows went so far as to threaten the reporter with firearms and a metal pipe (or whatever), but at least they will get busted for that. As precious as HBP is to us, I think that just the theft of the books (at around $50 total) would just be petty larceny (in the US). Now they're looking at some real punishment.

I'll say it again - whatever "news outlet" chases the "big scoop" that allows them to find out the plot of HBP is looking for news that nobody wants to hear!

Curse all of those men that want to try and steal HBp! JK Rowling worked hard on making the book for us to be entertained and read them not for people to steal her work! Its not cool not cool at all!

Counfound the theft! Not only he wants to spoil the book, but also try to hit a man!

After going to Afganistan and all, that reporter almost end up for the sake of HP. I'm a very huge fan of HP, no doubt at all, but that don't prevent me to think that that's not worth it. What a thrilled! Well, come to think of it, it would be great if they make it into a movie...

What´s wrong with these people? Why they steal these copys? Money isn´t so important, is it? I can´t wait, when it comes out, but that´s why I don´t try to steal it. Only 20 days to wait. That isn´t much anymore.

I can't believe someone would do that! Well... actually i can. I mean there are so many people who love the book. Jo has created a whole other world with the words in her fabulous series. She is a great writer, but i think that people should respect her. That is very unrespectful to steal a coveted book like Harry Potter.
