The American Library Association, through its Association for Library Service to Children division, released a recommended reading list
today for Harry Potter fans waiting impatiently for the July 16 release of the sixth JK Rowling novel in the series.
The list was created by children's librarians using the following criteria: "books that have similar story elements and replicate accessibility, tone and flavor; and books that are similar in theme but may be more complex."
Included in the first is Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series. More "complex" novels included Michael Ende's The Neverending Story, C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia, Madaleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time and Christopher Paolini's Eragon.

Hmm... Sounds pretty neat! I definately DON'T like a series of unfortuanate events!! But I do like the Cronicles of Narnia and was thinking about the Neverending Story and A Wrinkle in Time. I read Gone With the WInd and that DEFINATELY occupied me through a HP break that my freinds and English teacher begged me to take. So i would recomend Gone with the wind...I liked it. It took me about a week and a half. Its 1034 pages. It might take you 25 days...

I haven't read any of them...but I would highly recommend Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials, which are (1) The Golden Compass, (2) The Subtle Knife, and (3) The Amber Spyglass. They rule.

It's a bit sad... I haven't read most of the books on the list. Of the ones I have read, I kind of like the CS Lewis books.

Yeah, I love to reread the Hp books over and over with a break in between with another book or so. I have read a few of the books on the list like the circle of magic, Sabriel (abhorsen series), and a few others. I just finished reading a really good book you all should check out - Raven's Gate. its still pretty new, by Anthony Horowitz.

I read a lot - and fantasy - or postponement of reality - is my favorite - I've read some of the books on the list, however I was very pleased to see many that I'd never even heard of. (I spend a lot of time on Amazon). Some of the ones that I've read and really enjoyed are - Eragon (loved it) - Inkheart (this may not be for everyone) - and the first of the Bartimaeus trilogy - The Amulet of Samarkand. I reccommend any of these books to fill time until July 15 - midnight.

I just finished the first two books of "The Chronicles of Narnia" series. I think those are good books to read while waiting for the sixth book. They both have alot of adventure and the series is 7 books the same as Harry Potter. So yeah that is a good one.

Well we don't have *too* long to wait now...less than a month! I've been rather busy with work to be reading too much (wah!!) but I've been able to sneak some quality reading moments in every once in a while. When I first saw the trailer for the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe movie that is coming out I reread two of the Narnia books just to remind myself what was in the series- I loved those books as a child! I'd like to read the Series of Unfortunate Events books just to see what they are like. I also loved the Wrinkle in Time series, very excellent books!
I'd also recommend the Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper- another of my favorite childhood books.

I just cant't wait any longer fot the HBP to come out. I tried reading a few other books to make time fly away but it is just not the same. Harry Potter books have got more excitement than any other.I am sure about that.
