The American Library Association, through its Association for Library Service to Children division, released a recommended reading list
today for Harry Potter fans waiting impatiently for the July 16 release of the sixth JK Rowling novel in the series.
The list was created by children's librarians using the following criteria: "books that have similar story elements and replicate accessibility, tone and flavor; and books that are similar in theme but may be more complex."
Included in the first is Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series. More "complex" novels included Michael Ende's The Neverending Story, C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia, Madaleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time and Christopher Paolini's Eragon.

Hm I've only heard of like maybe 5 of those book. Oh well. Some of my friends have said that their good books. Another book that I would recommend is The Man Who Was Poe. It's pretty interesting. I wasn't a big fan of a Wrinkle In Time but oh well. Nothing can replace Harry Potter though!

Hmm, Okay. I dont know where I've grown up, but I hardly know any of those books. It took me a while to even get my self to read Harry, so I don't think those books would work for me.

A personal favorite of mine is the charlie bone series.
They're very similar to HP but not exactly...and harry potter is written a little bit better. The series almost seems rushed. But I still enjoy it.

These lists of novels are good reads, because I've also read them. However, nothing beats the Harry Potter series, because they hook the reader each time.

I always like Lois Lowry's "The Giver" when I was younger, it was something you could read over again and still find new stuff that you missed previously...kind of like the Harry Potter series.

Personally I´ve read Artemis Fowl and I don´t like it, although anyone who like tecnology may like it. I prefer C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, but u know Harry Potter rules!!!

Ah, I love the Harry Potter series- it's so hard for any other series to live up to it, for me. I have a lot of other favorites, but I'm afraid that when the series ends I'll be left with a void!

I don't think I need too much witchcraft and wizardry in my life. I'll stick to the HP series and of course the Chronicles of Narnia.

I'm a bit compulsive, I don't need other books, but I can see it from other people's points of view. THey do seem like good books but I just end up rereading the Harry Potter books, they are bound to get boring someday, but not anytime soon!

The reading List is a wonderful Idea for Harry Potter fans. I think it will open there minds and allow them to find more hidden facts in harry Potter! I am very excited to read them. I didn't see the book Son of A witch by Gregory Maguire. I haven't read it yet but I do have it to read.

I can't beleive they put Lemony Snicket's books on there. They aren't anything like the Harry Potter books. I read them and they get kind of annoying.
