According to a report on Bad Taste, the first screening
of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is scheduled to take place in Chicago, IL this Saturday (July 9th). It may be possible for the general public to get tickets to the event & I suggest (if you can) you place a few calls to the local AMC theaters to see if that is possible.
Babel Fish translation of the article:
The post-production is still in course, in particular as far as the special effects, and the assembly will not be that definitive one... But some watching lucky people will be able to assist to one special projection of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire this Saturday, that is between 48 hours.
The test screening is a practical one accustoms them of the production houses, than they use it as a system in order "sondare the land" and to assess that the public appreciates the relative choices to the scenario, the recitazione and the assembly of the film. The spectators receive a module to compile with their impressions, and before the projection a responsible of the production house perceives that the film still is not completed, and that not there will be definitive the sonorous column neither the special effects. Insomma, one "crude" version of the film, a work in progress sure still imperfect, but perhaps just for this still more moving! And for we, than we are not therefore fortunate from being able to assist to the projection?
It is expectable that in the immediately successive hours to the screening some book reviews appear on Internet, probably rich of spoiler! We of Bad Taste will hold to you we inform to you...
We have asked for confirmation on this story but I'm not sure if we will hear anything, secrecy and all that. If you have a chance to see the movie please let us know and if we see any reports of the screening online we will be sure to bring them to you.

I wonder how they decide where to show these test screenings. I've always been curious about how test audiences are chosen.

Haha, I know a lot of you are mad at the Americans, but probably all of us won't get to go. Most of us live too far away. Except for the lucky people in Chicaco...grr...So don't feel so bad, people from the other countries. I have as much a chance of you guys getting to go watch it. =( I live in California. Nothing much related to Harry Potter happens here, not even in LA. Ah well, there's always November 18th. =)

Just heard that it's at the cool River East AMC theater in Downtown Chicago, where they have lots of previews. Also heard that passes are gone and were handed out at random. I guess they are looking for "average" moviegoers, rather than people who are already big HP fans (read: justifiably critical), to do the previewing. Bah! And I will be downtown for something else already that day!
Anyway, it is extremely strange to be on the receiving end the of the "what's so great about Chicago?!" grumbles of everyone who doesn't live in Chicago. Chicago is a great city, SPELLBOUND and GoF preview aside. We are a huge test market for all sorts of things, especially consumer products. I guess there are a lot of "Joe Americans" here. We speak for you more than you know! Mmmmwah ha ha!
Congrats to anyone who gets into the screening! I'm sure some sort of review will pop up from the event!

It would be so wonderful to go to that, but I live too far away, and I would like to wait till the whole movie is finished before seeing it. I guess I can wait till Nov. when it comes out for real.

Well, again, yea for Chicago! If I find anything out, you can bet I'll see it! But I have the strong suspicion that this is purely a rumor.

Sorry to double post, but I just remembered that the movie theater at Randhurst Mall (where Spellbound will take place), just happens to be an AMC theater. Wonder if there might be any connection? Maybe a good chance that that is the theater where the screening could take place. It's worth a shot...

This may be me being jealous but I think its unfair for an American city to get a British film first. It would be more equitable for everyone to wait until November for the movie just as we are all waiting for July 16th for the book.

I think it would be really cool to attend this screening, how interesting to see any film still in production then compare when the film comes out. To be a part of the process on this film would be Priceless!!

Why does everything Harry Potter related have to happen in New York and Chicago? It isn't fair! (Now I'm starting to sound like my three year old :P)
