In a brief interview to discuss
his new movie opening this week, The Constant Gardener, Ralph Fiennes discusses not knowing any thing about Harry Potter and how he got into his evil character.
So you've been cast as Lord Voldemort. Are you a Harry Potter fan? I can't claim to be a Harry Potter fan, certainly before. Now, I guess I'm in the family a bit. But I didn't know much about who he was, so I had to do my research…. I wasn't really familiar with the whole world of Harry Potter. But I'm now very familiar with Lord Voldemort because [in low, evil voice] I am Lord Voldemort.
How do you prepare for a character that's pure evil? It's the hardest thing in the world to play pure, pure evil. I still don't know what it is.
Did you study other evil characters? We just talked about different levels of psychotic madness in people when you don't quite know what someone's gonna do. They could do anything -- they could slash your throat, they could put their arm around you and offer to be your best friend, and the next thing you know they turn really nasty. That sort of terrifying thing you see and read about.

Anyway, like I said before, I think this guy is too sexy to play Voldemort, Voldy's supposed to be ugly and foul....
But, all I care now is that the movie comes out to be the BEST.

I think that he will do a wonderful job with the part. That has to be a very very hard role to play. Pure evil is something that takes some skill to pull off.

True true. I was complaining to my friend when I saw some of the pics of the cast. I was telling him like, "She doesn't look like..." And he was like "Well there is Special Effects, and make up." Let's hope that he looks like Voldemort in the movie. I really want to see the eyes!

I can't wait to see how he portrays Voldemort. It will be tricky to please people. I think each person probably has their own image of Voldemort. He's right. Pure evil would be very difficult to portray. Especially, without going over the top. Evil is a bit differnt than psycho, in my opinion. More of a chosen path than a sickness.

Ah so that's Ralph Fiennes! I am sure he will make a splendid Lord Voldemort (is that an oxymoron? i can't imagine LV being "splendid"...). I have full confidence in the casting directors. They haven't failed us yet!!! Besides, we'll just have to wait until November 18 to find out. Only...2 1/2 months left!!!! EEK!!!!!!!

That got me excited for some reason.
What's with people saying he isn't an HP fan?
It seems like he didn't really read the books...Now he's read them for research and he's a fan...It said so.
We should be so judgemental. Afterall, Dan didn't even read all the books and he was cast AS Harry Potter...
He will be great...trust me.

I don't think it is necessary for him to be a HP fan to play the part well. He is a professional actor with lots of experience, and the director is there to guide the performance, so I think he will be great. They wouldn't have cast him otherwise, this is such a crucial part of the series. I did see a picture of him as Voldemort, and I wish I hadn't, but I am always so weak and check out all the spoilers!
