In a brief interview to discuss
his new movie opening this week, The Constant Gardener, Ralph Fiennes discusses not knowing any thing about Harry Potter and how he got into his evil character.
So you've been cast as Lord Voldemort. Are you a Harry Potter fan? I can't claim to be a Harry Potter fan, certainly before. Now, I guess I'm in the family a bit. But I didn't know much about who he was, so I had to do my research…. I wasn't really familiar with the whole world of Harry Potter. But I'm now very familiar with Lord Voldemort because [in low, evil voice] I am Lord Voldemort.
How do you prepare for a character that's pure evil? It's the hardest thing in the world to play pure, pure evil. I still don't know what it is.
Did you study other evil characters? We just talked about different levels of psychotic madness in people when you don't quite know what someone's gonna do. They could do anything -- they could slash your throat, they could put their arm around you and offer to be your best friend, and the next thing you know they turn really nasty. That sort of terrifying thing you see and read about.

I started chuckling when I read that he said "I am Voldemort" in a low, evil voice. Hehe! This guy might have a sense of humor! I wonder what it's like to play somebody so evil that nearly everybody in the world loathes you and wishes you were dead.....

I really think he's gonna do a great job as Voldemort. He seems as if he would be very convincing as an evil being. I mean, he DID study his part well.
I had no idea that he was in The Constant Gardener - I saw the trailers, but didn't notice him. I think he sounds pretty cool. AND, he can sort of multi-task - like Johnny Depp sort of. Heeey, what if Johnny Depp was cast to play Voldemort? Nah...

Personally, I think that he must be an amazing actor. I mean, the casting crew knows what they are doing when they pick the characters--they at least read the books. So considering that he hasn't read the books means that he was able to really capture Lord Voldemorts character without having any background on him, maybe not even the whole script! (I have no idea how auditions work, if they give you the script to read first, or if you just read a part of it to them off the bat or what.)
But whatever it is, whoever picked him seemed to think he was the best for the part, and I trust their judgement. All the other characters that have been picked are great!

Now how can this guy be Voldemort? He's too goodlooking.....have you seen him in Maid in Manhattan. Doesn't look all that evil to me!

I personally think the fact he wasn't a huge fan will help him in this role, he wont have all the prejustice that most do and he will do his best to make 'Voldemort' seem more realistic. My opinion of course.
He is a great actor and i cant wait to see how he portrays Voldemort, im rather excited!

I can't say I'ma big fan of the films, but I wouldn't mind seeing what Fiennes does with the character.
