In a brief interview to discuss
his new movie opening this week, The Constant Gardener, Ralph Fiennes discusses not knowing any thing about Harry Potter and how he got into his evil character.
So you've been cast as Lord Voldemort. Are you a Harry Potter fan? I can't claim to be a Harry Potter fan, certainly before. Now, I guess I'm in the family a bit. But I didn't know much about who he was, so I had to do my research…. I wasn't really familiar with the whole world of Harry Potter. But I'm now very familiar with Lord Voldemort because [in low, evil voice] I am Lord Voldemort.
How do you prepare for a character that's pure evil? It's the hardest thing in the world to play pure, pure evil. I still don't know what it is.
Did you study other evil characters? We just talked about different levels of psychotic madness in people when you don't quite know what someone's gonna do. They could do anything -- they could slash your throat, they could put their arm around you and offer to be your best friend, and the next thing you know they turn really nasty. That sort of terrifying thing you see and read about.

He is a very fine actor, and has played some very trying parts. He should be very good in the role. I am looking forward to see if it matches my vision from the books, and if it is consistent with the views in the films.

I hope that he's acting skills helps him do the job properly. I think it would make Harry Potter look like a joke if we had a not so threatening or weak Voldemort. But because all actors should research their character I'm sure he'll be fine.

I think Fiennes will do a good job. He's to closest actor I can think of that could fit the role as Voldemort. When I first heard he was playing Vodemort months ago, I knew it was a match. I hope it goes over well on screen though.

Yeah, He may not be familiar with the books as much as many of us, but i act, and a good actor can even do a character they aren't extremely familiar with so i think he will do a good job

I think we all hope that Ralph does superbly at playing Voldemort for the sake of the movie. This role is a very major part in helping Harry Potter become successful in the theatres. Good luck Ralph! you should do really good...or else. haha!
