Last month we told you
all about a Canadian folk group, The Wyrd Sisters, who were suing Warner Brothers and the group who will be playing the band during the Yule Ball scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It would now seem that they have secured
a November 4th court day to apply for an injunction barring distribution of the film in Canada.
The lawsuit against Warner Bros., Jarvis Cocker from Pulp and Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway of Radiohead alleges that the group in the film appears under their groups name but according to Warner Bros. there is no mention of the group’s name in the movie.
According to Warner Bros. spokesperson, Scott Rowe:
There is absolutely no name . . . for the band that is playing. They are never identified by name. We have (also) submitted sworn affidavits to the court, stating that the name Wyrd Sisters is not being used either in the film or on its soundtrack.
Warner Bros. even flew to Canada to show a copy of the movie to prove that the name Wyrd Sisters was not mentioned.
As soon as we hear more on this matter we will let you know, especially for our Canadian Harry Potter fans.

Now they're really getting unreasonable...everyone will know that these 'Wyrd Sisters' do not have any affiliation with Warner Brothers harry potter!
Their sound would be completely different as well...I mean we all know as Harry Potter fans that the Weird Sisters in HP are a rock band!
Come on! Let the world have the name of Weird Sisters in the 4th Harry Potter movie and movies to come!
It will not on any level condemn the canadian Wyrd Sisters' band in any way! And it's pretty well said...that these Wyrd Sisters are not exactly world renouned!
Stand your ground Warner Brothers!

This group is being ridiculous... They'll never win against WB... And, besides, what's the point in making all this fus if they don't even say the name in the movie?
I bet they're doing everything for a bit more publicity...

Obviously, I'm new here. I stumbled upon this site whilst I was searching for information on this legal case. It is especially distressing, as it hits me on three levels: as a Radiohead fan, as a Harry Potter fan, and as as a resident Canuck.
The Wyrd Sisters had to pull their guestbook from the main page of their web site because a few mean-spirited Radiohead fans caught wind of it and made some vicious, abusive posts. However, the link remains active, if you know where to look. If you'd like to give the Wyrd Sisters a piece of your mind, the guestbook link is here: http://www.theguestbook.com/read.php/240479. Please show them the basic human kindness they deserve. Do not swear at them and make nasty insults as others before have done. If we show them how important the books are to us — and, as a result, the movies — perhaps The Wyrd Sisters will understand just who this lawsuit is hurting.
Of course, The Weird Sisters name is borrowed from Macbeth. This work is in the public domain; no infringement there. However, it should also be noted that even the spelling, Wyrd Sisters, is borrowed from the title of a 1988 novel by Terry Pratchett. Apparently, the Wyrd Sisters have been around since 1990. You do the math.

This is very pathetic. They can't stop the whole of Canada watching it. Surley it would just mean more business for th Wyrd Sisters? And if the name is never mentioned in the film, well they really have no case,

Why do they feel they can ruin around 200000 peoples lives? Yet another way to get money because their band is rubbish. They should be ashamed of themselves, posing to get money they were already paid.

They are really dumb. Don't they realize that WB is a milti-trillion dollar corporation and is easily going to win? Besides, why do they care so much? The name isn't even in the movie for gosh sakes!

I think that's really unfair to all the people that want to see the Harry Potter film! Why should they be all shook up over the name thing anyway, I would be so happy if they were using my name in a Harry Potter movie!

What is there problem, just because they don't want there name to be famous! Oh my god how selfish is that?!? But you have to hand it to them, because by doing all this they're making a better name for themselves, yep I can just see it now: The Wyrd Sisters, the candian folk band who TRYED to sue WB! It's got a ring to it don't you think?!? NOT!

I still think that some people just need to get a life. This is a fictional world with a fictional band. That is the name of the group in the book. Especially if WB didn't mention the name of the group in the movie. I really hope everything works out for all the Canadian fans out there.
