Last month we told you
all about a Canadian folk group, The Wyrd Sisters, who were suing Warner Brothers and the group who will be playing the band during the Yule Ball scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It would now seem that they have secured
a November 4th court day to apply for an injunction barring distribution of the film in Canada.
The lawsuit against Warner Bros., Jarvis Cocker from Pulp and Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway of Radiohead alleges that the group in the film appears under their groups name but according to Warner Bros. there is no mention of the group’s name in the movie.
According to Warner Bros. spokesperson, Scott Rowe:
There is absolutely no name . . . for the band that is playing. They are never identified by name. We have (also) submitted sworn affidavits to the court, stating that the name Wyrd Sisters is not being used either in the film or on its soundtrack.
Warner Bros. even flew to Canada to show a copy of the movie to prove that the name Wyrd Sisters was not mentioned.
As soon as we hear more on this matter we will let you know, especially for our Canadian Harry Potter fans.

This has been one of the dumbest stories I've ever heard...I mean, first of all, it's really arrogan of the Wyrd Sisters to think that JKR even based the Weird Sisters on them in the first place...Second, wouldn't this trial completely ruin their career? They'll be getting about a thousand hate mails a day for this whole thing..Sheesh..

Wow... WB even flew to Canada to show a copy of the movie? Can I get a copy flown to me too?? I'm so bummed that this is attempting to put a damper of the excitement of HP for all of those Canadian fans. WB will come out on top though... I've got no doubt!

Man I would be so mad at that group if I lived in Canada. I want to see the movie so badly, I would just go across the border if they banned it, but I'm sure that WB will be able to sort everything out. That would be really unfair if they didn't.

Glad I don't live in Canada. I would hate it if I couldn't see the movie. I bought midnight tickets! And The spelling is different! What are they playing at? Oh yeah, they sound the same but who cares? I know that WB will prevail. Or at least I really hope so.

That is so annoying and stupid. If they're going to be that stupid then Warner Bros. and JKR should be allowed to sue them for using the name!

Boy I'm so glad that I don't live in Canada anymore. Stupid Group. BESIDES in the book it is the WEIRD Sisters that play at the ball, not wyrd. This type of stuff really annoys me.

If they dont show harry potter in canada im just gonna drive to niagra and hit the first theatre over the boarder. I'll cry if they dont show it though, niagra is like 3-4 hours drive for me and that is the closest border!!! Its ridiculous! I say that we all write the canadian courts protesting this. I mean, in the book the band name isnt even spelled wyrd!!! This is so horrible!!!

I think these Wyrdo's need to get a life. If nothing else, the books and movies are providing free advertising for them. However, I bet they aren't nearly as good as the 'real' Weird Sisters.

Well that's a bit ridiculous since the band is called "The Weird Sisters" in the book, and if named in the movie would probably be the same. None of this "Wyrd" business.

Some people will do anything for publicity. Honestly, if the name isnt mentioned at all then what is the point of all the hullabaloo. In short, it is a publicity stunt.
