Last month we told you
all about a Canadian folk group, The Wyrd Sisters, who were suing Warner Brothers and the group who will be playing the band during the Yule Ball scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It would now seem that they have secured
a November 4th court day to apply for an injunction barring distribution of the film in Canada.
The lawsuit against Warner Bros., Jarvis Cocker from Pulp and Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway of Radiohead alleges that the group in the film appears under their groups name but according to Warner Bros. there is no mention of the group’s name in the movie.
According to Warner Bros. spokesperson, Scott Rowe:
There is absolutely no name . . . for the band that is playing. They are never identified by name. We have (also) submitted sworn affidavits to the court, stating that the name Wyrd Sisters is not being used either in the film or on its soundtrack.
Warner Bros. even flew to Canada to show a copy of the movie to prove that the name Wyrd Sisters was not mentioned.
As soon as we hear more on this matter we will let you know, especially for our Canadian Harry Potter fans.

This is the stupidest thing ever. Obviously, WB is basing the band from the book, not some random, unknown band in Canada who are desperate for attention. Why didn't they bring this up earlier when the 4th book came out? What next? Are they going to accuse JK Rowling of stealing their name too? They probably took the name from JK Rowling in the first place. I really hope WB wins.

Enough is enough already. They need to let it go and move on. Leave the movie release alone. They're looking for a pay out, that's all. Next thing we know is they'll name JKR in the suit and try to block the next book release if the band's named in it. That'll earn you lots of good will.

Sour grapes and hoping to get some last minute publicity on their name and group. They won't succeed here, since there really is no confusion possible.

Uh thats crazy, it makes no sense! If the actual group in the book is called the Weird Sisters and theres no mention of the name in the movie OR soundtrack, then why are these people freaking out!? Well whatever it sounds like they just want the money.

What they are really doing is making a bad name for themselves. Harry Potter fans around the world will hate them if they get away with this. They will pay for their mistakes.

Okay, these people obviously want publicity and money. It makes no sense, the don't use the name in the film and in the books it is not even spelled the same way. It's ludicris at this point.

Those people really need something better to do. Coming from a lawyer I know they can't win this case. They just want publicity, what they need is some time in the lockup for bringing a fraudulent claim.

That is so stupid it's ridiculous! If they have a problem with it then they should just not see it! They're so retarded! They're making everyone in Canada pay for there stupidness! I mean come on, what do they think. Jo named the band after them to make fun of them? Seriously! I feel sorry for those who live in Canada, and I'm sure that Warner Bro. will prevail as Ramsay's Kitchen Maid said.

THEY ARE IDIOTS WHO ARE JUST TRYING TO GET ATTENTION!!! Woo, I'm glad I got that off my chest. This is really making me angry how this band got to see the movie just because they think they are the most popular band in the world. I think it was all a huge scam of people who were desperate people who wanted to see the movie really bad and would do anything to see it. Idiotd, if you ask me.

PhoenixPatronus2 says:
It sounds like they have no ground to stand on. If they wanted the publicity they're sure going to get it, but it's going to backfire. I wager there are a lot more HP fans out there than there are Wyrd Sister fans and all they're going to do is create ill will towards them. If anything they should be capitalizing on the fact that they have a similar name to the band in the books. Or...here's a thought...if they're _really_ that worried about it...they should change their name. They're fans will like them no matter what their name is.
I do, however, see how this could be a bad thing, or it would be if they were using the name in the movie, because it shows that the big corporations are always going to win, which I don't necessarily agree with, but sometimes it's obvious that the little guy is just fishing for money and that is sad.

Not these people again! WIll they give it up! I feel bad for those who live in Canada! What if they don't get to dsee the movie because of these dunderheads? That would be a tragedy! What if these people were only taking advantage of Warner Bros? Meaning, what if they knew they would show the movie? I hope WB gets them. They will win, WB hass to!

People in Canada are going to be so TORKED if they have to drive to America to watch the movie. Gah, people are so silly. They are just mad now that they didn't allow themselves to be IN it, they would have been way more popular. Now they are just getting a bad rep. for messing with kids.
