Last month we told you
all about a Canadian folk group, The Wyrd Sisters, who were suing Warner Brothers and the group who will be playing the band during the Yule Ball scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It would now seem that they have secured
a November 4th court day to apply for an injunction barring distribution of the film in Canada.
The lawsuit against Warner Bros., Jarvis Cocker from Pulp and Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway of Radiohead alleges that the group in the film appears under their groups name but according to Warner Bros. there is no mention of the group’s name in the movie.
According to Warner Bros. spokesperson, Scott Rowe:
There is absolutely no name . . . for the band that is playing. They are never identified by name. We have (also) submitted sworn affidavits to the court, stating that the name Wyrd Sisters is not being used either in the film or on its soundtrack.
Warner Bros. even flew to Canada to show a copy of the movie to prove that the name Wyrd Sisters was not mentioned.
As soon as we hear more on this matter we will let you know, especially for our Canadian Harry Potter fans.

I think that this is a real load of you-know-what. These people just need to get over the whole thing. The movie is not going to even use their name!! I sure hope that WB is able to overcome this bad deal.

It seems really extreme to expect them to ban the movie from a whole country over a silly lawsuit like this one. If anything they should be grateful for the publicity!

Oh, Warner Bros. will win, obviously. And if they don't, then I only live about an hour away from the Canadian/American border, so I'll just drive over. :P

These Peeps are crazy, do they really want to make HP fans mad, let's get real, how well known were they in the first place, now they are hated by about a billion people in the world. They say any publicity is good, but I think they will be proven wrong messing with the Wizarding World!!
On another note, it makes me just a little Peeved that they didn't use the name in the movie, which means they will be playing at the Yule Ball, but they will never be introduced!! FIGURES!!

Not again! I thought I wouldn't hear about them again. I'm getting kinda pissed off as I'm Canadian. I'm sure they won't be able to do anything but still it's getting irritating.

How pathetic. Our consolation is that no one ever heard of them before, and after this blows over, they will slide right back into oblivion and we will never have to put up with their delusions of self-importance again.

WHy are they making such a big fuss if their name isn't even mentioned in the movie? I mean, even their group title is spelled differently than the one in the book. If GOF doesn't show in Canada, I think many people will be extremely agitated.

They are not going to stop the distribution of Harry Potter in Canada over something so stupid. Their name is not even the same. if I ever met that group I would have a thing or two to say to them. It's so freeking ridiculous. Gosh I would be so pissed if the band prevailed though, but they won't.

I think that its a bunch of bull crap to try and ban harry potter from a whole country because a name similar to something of theirs is being used. Its just total bullshit.

If I were them, I'd drop that case rather quickly. They'll only be wasting their money. WB is a powerhouse that has certainly covered their tracks. Plus, as it is already copyrighted in JK's work, the name is protected.

Why would they even sue the band anyway. They didn't pick the name. Warner Bros. didn't either for that matter. I also don't think that they could get a full ban on it by the time the movie came out even if they won considering its only two weeks before

They just need to be quiet and enjoy the movie. JK prolly didnt even know there was a folk band called the Wryd Sisters. Plus thats not even the same as the Weird Sisters, which she prolly got from MacBeth. there are gonna be similar names out in the world similar to the books characters. so that group just can shut up.

Oh please. These people are so full of themselves and are obviously trying to get some PR. They aren't mentioned in the film or soundtrack. Not much to complain about is there? I wonder if maybe they stole the name from JKR, hmmm?

I don't know why they're making it such a big deal even when their group name's not even mention in the movie. "Wyrd Sisters" is totally different from "Weird Sisters."

Goodness me, I never knew it was going to be such a big issue. Geez. Will they just let it go? (It isn't that easy is it?) But come on! I mean, just get on with life. This is't worth going crazy about. It isn't even mentioned in the Movie or soundtrack. It might just be a coincidence the JK Rowling made up the Wyrd Sisters, or a compliment. Just let it go. It isn't the end of the world. I wish they would just let it go.

This is so retarded. I agree with some of the comments. It would be totally cool to have my name in a movie. They should be happy about it not suing. But the again, people now a days will do just about anything to get money. I also can't believe they are going to go through with the lawsuit even though WB brought a copy of the movie to show them that their name wasn't in it. I bet they just wanted to see the movie early.

I have said it before and I will say it again, it won't happen. Canada's entertainment revenues have been extremely low lately and they have been looking forward to movies like Harry Potter to increase our crappy movie sales. Also, Canada will severally suffer (again revenue wise, but also in reputation) if 80% of canadians cross the border just to see Harry Potter. Honestly guys, it won't happen...so just sit back, relax and enjoy "The wyrd sisters" making themselves the laughing stock of the Canada, and the rest of the world.
