There is good news for Canadian fans awaiting the release of the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Last week we reported the Wyrd Sisters, a Winnepeg folk band, filed a legal motion in attempt to block the film's release in Canada. However, reports now indicate
that the motion has just been dismissed by the Ontario Superior Court.
Thanks to Jen for the tip.
UPDATE: Additional reports
indicate that not only was this motion dismissed, but the entire case against Warner Bros., et al. According to Justice Colin Campbell:
I am not satisfied that the fact of three musicians appearing in the film will operate as a deception to the public such as to affect the goodwill that the plaintiffs may have in the term, 'The Wyrd Sister'.
Neither am I satisfied that the six-second inclusion of the scene in question will cause irreparable harm.

Awesome! I'm very glad that the judge has dismissed this. I almost wonder if that folk band just wanted publicity. They've certainly gotten some.

Just when I had lost almost all faith in the judical system, with all the ignorant mistakes they have made, they finally did something right. I also agree it was a No-Brainer for the Judge, but then again, I have seen even easier case goes the wrong way.

Good, I'm glad that the judge is a smart man. He only pointed out what was already so painfully obvious. Greedy Wyrd Sisters got what they deserved, they should be fined as well .

Great! I can't say I'm surprised, but you never know what's gonna happen, especially when a "little guy" is going up against a "big guy" like WB. Good for you, Canadian HP fans!

Good! I'm glad that the case turned out the way it did. Did those Wyrd sisters people really think that they could stop the whole release of Goblet of Fire in Canada just by themselves? Well, I think not!

That was just ridiculous, if a judge ever accepted that claim they wouldnhave to be crazy. Besides fans would get to see the movie anyway. I'm happy that they didn't ban it or anything because I live in Canada and I would be very unhappy. This is great news!

I cannot believe that this band will even file a lawsuit against the movie. Its utterly ridicolous. I think that they are just trying to get some attention.
