There is good news for Canadian fans awaiting the release of the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Last week we reported the Wyrd Sisters, a Winnepeg folk band, filed a legal motion in attempt to block the film's release in Canada. However, reports now indicate
that the motion has just been dismissed by the Ontario Superior Court.
Thanks to Jen for the tip.
UPDATE: Additional reports
indicate that not only was this motion dismissed, but the entire case against Warner Bros., et al. According to Justice Colin Campbell:
I am not satisfied that the fact of three musicians appearing in the film will operate as a deception to the public such as to affect the goodwill that the plaintiffs may have in the term, 'The Wyrd Sister'.
Neither am I satisfied that the six-second inclusion of the scene in question will cause irreparable harm.

It's great that they tried, but they really shouldn't have expected such a fairytale out of it. They just picked the wrong movie to demand i guess.
Really great news for fans in canada though! Congrats to Warner Bros.

Personally I think that they did them selves a disservice by doing this, it just gave them a lot of negative publicity that's sure to backfire on them. Their fans would already know who they are so what were they afraid of? Really they were just trying to get some money out of the whole deal, stupid money grubbers.

THey probably just did it to get some publicity. In fact, i would not be suprised if they are harry potter fans anyway, having known that there is a band in the book called the wierd sisters. Plus it's dumb because how would they even be sure that they were going to appear in the movie anyway? Anyway, I think they just did it for publicity, they got US thinking about them didnt they???

Well, what did that band think it was trying to do 'promote' their band, if anything it made them less popular, 'cause we all know that there a *tons* on HP fans, and how many fans of their band.... they made themselves enemies...stupid really.

Whew.. I had no worries though. A case like that has no merit and was completly pointless if you ask me. I'm happy all of us can now enjoy the wonder that is Harry Potter! ^_^

Woot, that is so awesome. I knew it wouldn't go anywhere. Now that I know that WB did change the name to the Wyrd Sisters, I do understand. But it is not that serious. They aren't even referred to in the movie by their name. I'm glad they didn't get the injunction against the movie.

Well good news for Canadian fans and probably for the Wyrd zsisters too. If it had become a long case, the only they would have won is more enemies because, the spellings are different, the name wasn't in the movie at all.
The kindest way I can describe them is misguided or uninformed. Their lawyers pocketed some money from them I'm sure.

That's good. I don't see why they would do that. If anything it will make their band more popular after the movie is out.

In yo' face to the idiots who filed the lawsuit in the first place. I'm happy for my relatives in Canada, they were seriously thinking about making the trek to the U.S. to watch the movie. Okay, they live right at the Canadian border and are only 20 minutes from the U.S. but it does sound cool if they did.).
