With the premiere of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire just hours away, a few early reviews from publications in the UK have appeared online. One gives it 3 out of 5 stars in what seems more like an recap of the movie than a review, one is a more in-depth review from four kids and their aunt and the last one discusses the actors and the plot.
From The Times
:
What's fresh about the Goblet of Fire is the intriguing tension between the feeble and the strong. This has always been Rowling's tug of war. The playground duels between Harry and his peers are as bitter as ever, but there's a delicious sense of anarchy about boarding school life. For the first time we sense what makes Harry tick under pressure.
From the Guardian
:
By common consent, among my party at least, this is the best Potter on film yet and, while I'm no expert, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The wit, panache and special effects put you in mind of the best of the Bond films, while the fabulous acting from the likes of Frances de la Tour, Maggie Smith, Miranda Richardson and Robbie Coltrane put me in mind of the St. Trinian's films.
From the Telegraph
:
Fear and sadness are expertly portrayed, and no matter how much you love or hate the book you'll have a hard time not getting drawn into this movie.
UPDATE: AICN
have also posted a review of the film in which the reviewer gives it a B+, only because there is too much humor in the film.

Those people in London are so lucky if they can get into the premiere. I wonder how many of the actor will take time out and say hello to the fans. I wish I was near the red carpet to meet them..

Yeah obviously it wasn't enough "steel magnoliayucky" for the critics. It seems only the real depressing movies make the critics A list. They are always so off anyways. Blah.

It got a B+ for having "too much humor"? What is that about? As dark as the book is, it could have gotten an "R" rating without the humor...go figure.

I don't want to read these because they will have plenty of spoilers I'm afraid. The movie is going to be awesome though.

Sad to hear that one fo the reviews downgraded the movie for attemting to put a little too much humor in it. This is a very serious book. I understand the humor is being added for the children, but I think it will ruin the film for adults. This is exactly what was wrong with the first Star Wars movie Episode 1. The old school Star Wars fans hated it becuase they put too much humor in it to try to attract new children viewers. These books are well written the way they are. If they ruin the films by adding too much humor, I will be really dissapointed.

Hey there is nothing wrong with having humor in a film. I can't wait to see it. If it's getting reviews that good, it seems to be a very promising movie!

I don't wanna read those! I don't want to read about people critisizing Harry Potter just because they think it isn't ABSOLUTLEY perfect.
Because it is.
They should suck it up. Just kidding!
I can't wait!
Oh, yeah. The music sounds awesome in the theaters.

I didn't read any of the reviews yet, mostly because of the potential spoiler aspect, but, also, as others have pointed out, most reviewers don't exactly have the same enthusiasm as we have for the series so we might "get" a lot more than they do out of the film. We also can be much harsher critics, really, but I don't think I'll be disappointed by this one! I'm sure there aren't any sorts of reviews that would disuade me from seeing this film!

Well, I think in order to gear the movie towards kids, the humor has to be in there to break it up a bit. But, I don't like it as an adult.. I think what makes the stories so great is their darkness.

That's always the case with the Potter films. They always get good reviews when they are released and that's why they get a higher ranking in the box office.
