With the premiere of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire just hours away, a few early reviews from publications in the UK have appeared online. One gives it 3 out of 5 stars in what seems more like an recap of the movie than a review, one is a more in-depth review from four kids and their aunt and the last one discusses the actors and the plot.
From The Times
:
What's fresh about the Goblet of Fire is the intriguing tension between the feeble and the strong. This has always been Rowling's tug of war. The playground duels between Harry and his peers are as bitter as ever, but there's a delicious sense of anarchy about boarding school life. For the first time we sense what makes Harry tick under pressure.
From the Guardian
:
By common consent, among my party at least, this is the best Potter on film yet and, while I'm no expert, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The wit, panache and special effects put you in mind of the best of the Bond films, while the fabulous acting from the likes of Frances de la Tour, Maggie Smith, Miranda Richardson and Robbie Coltrane put me in mind of the St. Trinian's films.
From the Telegraph
:
Fear and sadness are expertly portrayed, and no matter how much you love or hate the book you'll have a hard time not getting drawn into this movie.
UPDATE: AICN
have also posted a review of the film in which the reviewer gives it a B+, only because there is too much humor in the film.

I expected this to be the best movie in the series. Newell was the best choice for GoF. They should get him back for sixth.

Eeek London premiere tomorrow! Don't think I will be home when they run that live stream online :( but I'm sure we'll have lots of stills. And 12 more days for us! For movies I already know I'm seeing, I couldn't care less what the critics say. Only if I know nothing about the movie will I look up some reviews.

Like I've suspected since some months, it's going to be the best movie so far, and it's keeping going... November 18th will be one of the best day for all the potter fans (except for the best day, july 16th when HBP went out).

Well, I'm glad that the overall attitude towards the movie is positive...although 3 out of 5 stars? Ack, I think when the movie comes out more and more critics will see how awesome it is :P

I'm really hoping that the 3/5 stars is because they're not Harry Potter fans, and not because the movie isn't as great as it's supposed to be. Either way...3/5 stars is still respectable (just not as great as I hoped), but I'm willing to bet the critics don't know what they're talking about anyway, so I'll wait and decide for myself.

These are pretty good reviews, so excited for the movie! But why 3 out of 5 stars? I guess the critics don't look at it from a HP reader's point of view.

Oh, I read the Times one earlier, alright. That wasn't really a review. I can't believe they give GOF 3 stars out of 5. That surely won't bring down my enthusiasm for the movie. The other two were okay, though. Can't wait!

I would very much like to see the pre-premiere stuff- seeing the actors, JKR and other people involved in the movie. I can see it livestreamed but 4:00 am in Sydney.
I hope that since it will open later in Australia is so we can also have our Australian premiere. That would be cool since Dan is going to be in Australia to film a movie at the end of the year. Yayness.
