Excerpts from Rowling & Fry radio interview Popular (5431)

DECEMBER 7, 2005 at 9:43 AM

Posted by GERI
Source: The Leaky Cauldron

We recentlyopens in new window told you that Harry Potter author JK Rowling and British narrator Stephen Fry would be conducting an interview for UK radio station BBC4's Living with Harry Potter, discussing all things Potter. Now the print edition of the Radio Timesopens in new window has some excerpts from the program:

Fry: Is it really true that you've got it [the end of the story] all planned out?

Rowling: Yes, I do know what's going to happen in the end. And occasionally I get cold shivers when someone guesses at something that's very close, and then I panic and I think "Oh, is it very obvious?" and then someone says something that's so off the wall that I think "No, it's clearly not that obvious!"

So much that happens in [book] six relates to what happens in [book] seven. In six, although there is an ending that could be seen as definitive in one sense, you very strongly feel the plot is not over this time and it will continue. It's an odd feeling, for the first time I'm very aware that I'm finishing.

You can read the rest of the excerpts hereopens in new window.

The program will air on December 10th at 9 am & repeat on December 24th at 5 pm.

Oh man!! Like many of the rest of you I have many feelings about the last and final book of Harry Potter from JKR. I feel sad that it will be over, excited to get to read it, and scared about who might die also!! I really don't want Harry to die, but let's face it, besides Voldemort and Death Eaters, who really wants anyone else to die either?!?!

Hiya!
Actually I don't want to know what's going on in the last - the very last *cries* book of Harry Potter. - I don't want to know yet. But it's so ... I dunno. I've seen the fourth film again today and it was so sad! And it was just the fourth one! What'll happen if it's the fifth? Sixth? With Dumbledore disappearing - not dying! ... what will it be like to see something like that in the cinema?! Oh god ... It'll be the worst and best things I'll ever see in a film (I think ... who knows ...)
Yea. THat's that for the moment ... I'm getting too depressed ... *sniffs* hehe ...

So long, Y:h.

Hmmm. Cool interview! I can't say I belame JKR if she were to decide to write her next books under a psudonym. I don't think I would want all the hype that goes along with her name either. Especially if her new stuff stinks. Atleast she'll be able to deal with it stinking privatly. But I seriously doubt anything she wrote would be bad.

I've always been a HP fan through-and-through.
Since the first books were released, I was there, waiting eagerly to recieve the book in my grimy little hands :P
And now that the 7th book will be released, I know this moment will be bittersweet. The much-awaited yet hated (because it will all be over) ending awaits us.
Sometimes I wish JK Rowling would write a HP University series! Heh.
Anyway, I hope JK doesn't REALLY use a pseudonym!! Then I won't be able to identify her new book when it comes out. :'( and I do want to do that.
And so what if there's post-HP hype? I mean, well I know she must be a little tired of all that fame & stuff, but fans like me.... really want to follow through with this same author, and experience other marvelous things she writes. Ah well.
That's life, mah chaps.

Man, I get nervous every time I see a new interview with JK... I'm really excited about the last book- I just can't wait!- and I analyze every thing she says about it. I'm hoping the plot works out in a satisfying way and that she's planned it so that we'll all be pleasantly surprised... but without being too 'heroic' or cheesy... Anyways, glad to hear that she's still feeling good about the ending she's worked out.
