After six weeks in U.S. movie theaters Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has overtaken
Chamber of Secrets in box-office receipts. Currently Goblet of Fire is the second highest grossing Harry Potter movie.
Over the holiday weekend Goblet of Fire made
$5.72 million and is currently at the number 10 spot. Overseas the movie has garnered
$497 million for a total global box-office take of $759.4 million, just $30 million behind Prisoner of Azkaban.
Thanks to Shannon for the reminder of my weekly updates.
UPDATE: Actual weekend figures have been given and Goblet of Fire took in $6.4 million over the holiday weekend and is currently ranked at number 9.

I'll bet that it overtakes PoA by the end, don't you? Interesting how it seems like each movie makes more and more $$. I think that HP really is gaining a movie following. (So now maybe if WB realizes this too and makes the movies longer that would be great!!)

I'm glad anything in the Potterverse is doing this well! Really fun movies are getting harder to come by in this world of violent action or horror films.
I too, thought the first two were better, but only because they stuck to story rather than going for high, fast paced action. No one, apparently, will ever manage high, fast paced action and story like Spielberg did with the Indiana Jones movies. They just keep trying and failing the attempt.
For the people who live for graphics, however, the GoF is great fun! Hopefully, it will lead those who haven't read the books, to pick one up and see what they've been missing.

I'm impressed but not surprised at all! It really was a great movie so I'm glad it's been doing as well as it has. Also I think it has a good chance of beating out Prisoner of Azkaban before it's through, with the holiday season and New Years. Way to go!

I loved PoA but I'm not surprised that GoF is on track to overtake PoA in box-office receipts globally. The lenthy holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Years gives GoF a boost...while PoA had to battle many blockbusters in the competitive summer market.
