JK Rowling
, along with other renowned authors, has donated handwritten work to be auctioned off for the benefit of Book Aid International
. The organization is responsibile for "putting books into the hands of the world's most disadvantaged readers."
The Harry Potter author has put up for auction a drawn layout of the Black Family Tree, which was first introduced to readers in (the fifth book) Order of the Phoenix, that reveals members of the wizarding community not previously mentioned in the series -- although with familiar surnames. The Daily Telegraph
has recently released a portion of this drawing and scans of their article
are available online, courtesy of TLC.
The items are to be auctioned on the 21st of February -- click here
for more information. Thanks to Pearl for the tip!

That is awesome.
I would love to have that.
But of course I doubt I could get enough money to place a bid on that.

After looking at the close-up of the family tree, I noticed that Harry's grandparents as well as Neville's are on there. I wonder who else will be. I noticed names like Bulstrode and Crouch.
Hmmm, very interesting.
And wonderful of Jo to be so generous!

Wow that's awesome !!! I found this part interesting- Intriguingly there is a Dorea (1920-1977) who married Charles Potter and had one child, a son. The time frame seems to be consistent with them being James' parents. Thats cool... mabye it is James' parents... I can't wait to see if they will show the whole chart...

That was sooo cool to look at. I wonder if that means that Charlus Potter married a black and had James. It's so odd how they are all cousins.

I don't think it's odd that they're all related in some fashion or another - Sirius explained it in OotP when he said that anyone that wanted to remain pure blood had to marry someone they were related to in some way. I think it's pretty nifty that 1) JKR actually drew the whole thing out and 2) that she donated it to charity- very cool.

Sorry for double posting, but I just looked at the new close-up scan and we can clearly see that the Potters, the Longbottoms and the Bulstrodes are on the family tree. Only as inlaws but still, quite a thing!!!

Freaking WICKED! What I wouldn't give to own it! You know, JKR could probably have snagged even more money for the charity if she had just had it printed up as posters... I know she'd have at least one sale!!!
