I honestly thought GOF was going to get nominated for Best Visual Effects as well as Best Cinematography and Best Sound Editing. It's very disappointing to see that GOF has one nomination - Art Direction - and it will probably lose to "Memoirs of a Geisha" or "Pride & Prejudice". Of course, I'm equally mad that "Batman Begins" (another film that could've been nominated for more technical awards) has only been nominated for Best Cinematography and nothing else. X(
But if GOF does win for Best Art Direction, it'd be nice to see the series be recognized by the Academy, be it solely on its technical merits.

Well, I am glad that it got a nomination, but I really don't think it will get it...the "pros" don't usually pick the ones the public likes, they pick the lesser known films that didn't rake in the money. There have been some exceptions (LOTR, Titanic, etc.), but I don't put much stock in those awards because I usually don't agree with their choices.

What happened to Achievement in Makeup?! There are only 3 nominees.
How about Achievement in sound editing?! Yet another short list that could have been improved upon!
Achievement in visual effects? Same thing.
Why --- okay this is a family-friendly site... gotta watch that language ---- was "Walk the Line" on the list of nominees for Achievement in costume design, but GoF wasn't?! A credit card and a monkey could have dressed the cast of "Walk the Line".
I normally don't get worked up over things like this, 'cause it's really not worth it. But the academy has heavily missed the mark. Even if I weren't a HP fan, I'd see this for what it is: Politics and religion.

GoF was definately Oscar nomination worthy, I'm just disappointed that it didn't get more nominations!! Some people just don't know real talent when they see it. But just in case I hope that OotP is an even better movie!!

Dragon Lady... I live in Souther Cal, and work as a SFX supervisor.... Hollywood hasnt been doing well because of the pirating of films... it has very little if not nothing to do with quality of films.... Many prodcution companies have backed out of films that had the opportunity to make them above average money where as the norm is concerned.. and have done so on the basis of losing profits to illegal copies.
Granted GoF, and SW III did do well, they by no means saved Hollywood this year. Profits, and movie going attendance is down even more from last year.
