Harry Potter author JK Rowling and children characters Paddington Bear, Mowgli from the Jungle Book and Winnie the Pooh will help Queen Elizabeth celebrate
her 80th birthday in June. The party celebrations will include three thousand children as guests and take place on Sunday, June 25th at Buckingham Palace.
Jo had to this to say about the invitation:
I can think of no better way to mark the Queen's 80th birthday than with a party for children at the Palace with some of the best loved characters from children's literature. Harry and I are very much looking forward to attending, particularly as we understand that, despite his alleged membership of the aristocracy, Lord Voldemort has not been invited.
Children between four and 14 in the UK can apply for tickets online
at CBBC Newsround and those who win will get three tickets each so they can take a friend or sibling and an adult.

I like the fact that it is children who are invited to celebrate with the queen. Nice. Nice that they are also promoting children's literature at the same time.

Poor Queen, sounds like it'll be awfully hard work for her for a birthday party! Still, at least it's only her official birthday, the real one should be better. I'm surprised she's almost 80, she's doing well.

Wow! Since the other characters (Winnie,Mowgli and Paddington)will be there in the flesh(so to speak), wouldn't it be cool for the kids if Daniel Radcliffe accompanied JKR dressed as Harry !?

I'm trying to imagine what I would do to get into this party. Anything. Really. If anyone wants a 19 year old really-happy-while-also-being-highly-qualified fun American babysitter for the event, well, I'm available!!

Thats awesome that the Queen would do that instead of having some formal affair. Good to know there are those of high power who value a good book more than their crown jewels.

That is so cool! Normally I don't think much of the Queen but inviting three thousand 4 - 14 year old kids to your birthday party? That is a brave thing to do!! And it's great that JK is invited, and LV going - ha ha, she never fails to amuse.
