With all the news today about the upcoming Harry Potter film, actor Daniel Radcliffe discusses how he has prepared for his role this time around by meeting with a grief counselor so that he could understand survivor's guilt which is so prevalent in the book.
Daniel on understanding his role in Order of the Phoenix.
Sirius is clinging on to James (Harry's father and Sirius' best friend) through me, and I'm trying to know my father through him. The same thing happens with me and Cho. I was the last person there when her last boyfriend, Cedric, was killed.

He's really developing as an actor, isn't he? Just the fact that he understands all these issues and the fact that Harry will have to cope with them. Although I'm sure the studio has a big hand in helping him prepare.

That really is a deep insight to what i think JK Rowling was trying to get across to her readers. That sometimes making a connection with a person isn't always what it seems. When you lose a person in your life it's only natural to try and find them in other people. Especially those who have had a connection with them also. Thats a great way to approach the Order of the Phoenix, well done for recognising the deeper feelings in this movie Daniel. I hope it turns out spectaular and really meaningful.

I think it going to be quite a challenge for Dan to show Harry's anger. In OOTP, Harry literally screams every two seconds! In the book of GOF, when Harry and Ron were angry at each other, Harry like screamed at Ron and chucked stuff at him. In the movie, they didn't really show that anger, they just showed that he was irritated.

Wow! That is really good that he is doing a lot of preparing for the role. Dan is turning into a really good actor. I hope he continues throughout the next two movies. Especally the Half Blood Brince, which (I think) will defintly tedt him as an actor. I also hope that he doesn't decide to finish doing to moves after this one, becuae the next move would just fall apart.

That's a good idea, meeting with a counselor. I never would have thought of that. I really hope Dan is able to channel those emotions well, as it is pretty much what the entire book is based on. Good luck!

It's almost a foray into method-acting. It's cool to see him really trying to prepare for his roles emotionally as well as in every other respect. I have no doubt that it will be his most convincing performance yet.

Good for Dan. I'm not surprised he's taking his preparation seriously though, considering how much work he put into making GoF as "real" as possible from a physical/stunt perspective. OotP is mainly emotional/internal, besides the scenes at the Ministry in the end. Most of it is inside Harry's head, which I would think is even more difficult to prepare for than anything physical. And I'm glad Dan doesn't have any personal experience to draw on for OotP!
