Reports online are stating that at last night's Book Aid International auction, the Black Family Tree that Harry Potter author JK Rowling sketched and donated
was bought
on behalf of Daniel Radcliffe for £30,000 ($52,219).
Daniel also successfully bid on handwritten works by writers Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.
Daniel's mother, Marcia Gresham, bid on his behalf at the auction & had this to say about Daniel and his reading:
This should put paid to anyone who says that Daniel doesn't like reading. Daniel hasn't stopped since he read the first Harry Potter book and he loves Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.

I that it would be really cool to have something like that but it was a lot of money definatly. Oh well, D.R. is probably a smart person and if he enjoys reading and harry potter a lot, then more power to him! But really, that was A Lot of money to spend. I wonder who gets it?

That is so amazing that he bought those things! I'm in shock that at such a young age he'd be interested in collecting things. But, I guess when you have the money you can do what you want with it.

I'm surprised it wasn't announced earlier. That's awesome. Maybe they can use it to make a more realistic tapestry in the movie. That would be pretty awesome.

Wow- how more perfect could it be? The Black Family Chest bought by Harry Potter.. Haha, well you know what I mean!
Well actually it would have been more perfect if I MYSELF had gotten it, but hey! Daniel seems like a good person to get it! And he's got the money. And it could help him with his acting.... maybe.... for backstory? Ah well the way things go in this world- it sure is a small world.

Way to go Dan!! Not only does he use his money wisely in getting value for value, but he also contributes to charity (which proves to be a favorite pasttime of his.) The idea that his mom was somehow defending her son, is unfounded though. All she said,in essence, is that if there was anyone out there thinking that maybe Dan doesn't like to read, this should prove otherwise! DUH! Besides, not knowing EVERYTHING about Dan's personal life... we don't know if there was (or was not) a teacher out there that told his parents early on that Dan didn't like to read. Ms. Gresham could have been alluding to that... Whatever the case, who cares! Dan (I think now an adult in the UK... and is free to take on his own finances) made an excellent choice! More power to him!!

Haha! Well, I made a comment about the release of more of the family tree and how it just keeps getting more interesting. This really puts the icing on the cake, doesn't it?
I was afraid it would be purchased by some Potter-hording miser who wouldn't share the image with us. I hope, hope, hope that Dan will release the entire image publically.

WHAT? Man. It's cliched. But uber cool. Who doubted that Dan didn't like to read? Anyways, what a smart, lucky and good guy. He got the money to buy it from the HP movies, so that's a bit odd. But still, very awesome.
