Reports online are stating that at last night's Book Aid International auction, the Black Family Tree that Harry Potter author JK Rowling sketched and donated
was bought on behalf of Daniel Radcliffe for £30,000 ($52,219).
Daniel also successfully bid on handwritten works by writers Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.
Daniel's mother, Marcia Gresham, bid on his behalf at the auction & had this to say about Daniel and his reading:
This should put paid to anyone who says that Daniel doesn't like reading. Daniel hasn't stopped since he read the first Harry Potter book and he loves Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.

I never doubted that Dan didnt like to read. well i guess i dont care! it doesnt matter to me if Dan likes to read or not!!

Its so amazing of him to buy the Black Family Tree at the auction. It is so amazing how he helps out with charities and auctions. I knew he liked to read, I read it somewhere, so I am not surprised. I bet Dan is really smart, maybe the top 5 in his class.

How does this not surprise me. It makes sense that the actor who plays Harry Potter would want an original piece of work from the author who created his character. Still, it surprises me how much money a guy my same age has!

*Hermione!* - there are actually pictures of the tree online... you can find links of it on this site and the hplexicon has an update that tells about what was left out on the drawing. Though the tree is just the last couple of generations, but it's really interesting... check it out!

I noticed that the total proceeds of the auction were about $63 000 (Pounds, not Dollars, but I don't have a Pounds Sterling symbol on my keyboard!) Dan paid $30 000 for the Family Tree, so JK's contribution constituted almost half of the entire proceeds! I think that says something about JK as a writer, and the popularity of Harry Potter.

I guess it's obvious that he can read. What I appreciate is the fact that he likes to read. So many teens are video oriented and it's good to see someone reading and using their imaginations and not just a play station.
