Reports online are stating that at last night's Book Aid International auction, the Black Family Tree that Harry Potter author JK Rowling sketched and donated
was bought
on behalf of Daniel Radcliffe for £30,000 ($52,219).
Daniel also successfully bid on handwritten works by writers Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.
Daniel's mother, Marcia Gresham, bid on his behalf at the auction & had this to say about Daniel and his reading:
This should put paid to anyone who says that Daniel doesn't like reading. Daniel hasn't stopped since he read the first Harry Potter book and he loves Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.

Holy Cow!!! I would have never expected Dan to win the Black Family Tree ever. That's a lot too!! $52,219 dollars. Wow!!! Congradulations Dan. That was very nice of your mom to do for you while you are gone and filming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I have to say, he is so lucky to have a mom this nice, and to think of you too!!!

Very generous of Mr. Radcliffe and congratulations to him for receiving the Family Tree and other memorable writings. It's wonderful for Mr. Radcliffe to promote reading as well.

"I don't think that should have happened, he is wealthy and he is famous, someone more diserving and who doesn't have everthing he has should have bought it.. "
It went to the one giving more money, and that's Dan. There is no one who deserved it more than the person who gave more money to the auction, that's what matters here, the money they raised.
And "who doesn't have everthing he has should have bought it"? that person would have had to paid more than 30000, so I doubt that person would have being "poor" you know.

Whoever said Daniel doesn't like to read? And why does his mom have a different last name? Is she divorced from Dan's father? That's really neat though that Dan bought it.

Yeah, I too wonder if Dan will make this awesome item available for the viewing pleasure of us fans at some point. I do see him donating it to a museum at some point. As if we needed another reason to adore Dan -- this was a cool thing to buy for charity. Sure, he has an insane amount of money, but he (like JKR herself) certainly is generous with it. Good for him!

Good for Dan. Im glad it went to him if it couldn't go to me : ) I wonder why people would say he doesn't like to read... I would think he would have extra motivation to read especially things Harry Potter related.

Daniel Radcliffe has to be the greatest young actor of his generation! He really does do his part for charity. And his passion for reading sets an amazing example for all the young Harry Potter fans.
I hope he always stays this way. And not turn into other child actors that turn to extreme measures to stay in the lime light!
