Reports online are stating that at last night's Book Aid International auction, the Black Family Tree that Harry Potter author JK Rowling sketched and donated
was bought
on behalf of Daniel Radcliffe for £30,000 ($52,219).
Daniel also successfully bid on handwritten works by writers Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.
Daniel's mother, Marcia Gresham, bid on his behalf at the auction & had this to say about Daniel and his reading:
This should put paid to anyone who says that Daniel doesn't like reading. Daniel hasn't stopped since he read the first Harry Potter book and he loves Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.

Urg, I'm sorry, but it really obothers me that anyone can just blow 52 grand on a book! URG! It's so not fair, man, i really wish that i could just blow 52 grand on a book, or shopping spree, or anything besides shcool. I mean, i'm not poor or anything, but I don't have the option of just blowing that kind of money!
And sure, it's going to a good cause, Jk deserves it, but, like, she's richer than the queen of England, so, well i'm very tired and we lost our hockey game tonight vs a team that i know we could have beaten so i'm just very frustrated. Sorry.

Daniel did something wonderful. He used his money to help others ( as he often does, as I can see from the news on his web site).
This shows how such a sensitive young adult he is and that success hasn't changed his behavior.
I'm proud of you Daniel. I hope that you won't change in the future, but remain always like this.

Who ever doubted that Daniel didn't like to read? Because he is always talking about all the new books he has read. Well, anyway, that's chill that he bought the Black family tree.

Is it just me, or did Marcia Gresham make some uncalled for (could that be used to describe it? Not sure. Moving on...) comments to make? Daniel is ALWAYS talking about books he's read! How come she said stuff like 'this should put paid to anyone who says Daniel doesn't like reading'? Odd. She sounds scarily like my friend's mum. Who, strangely enough, is named Marcia! The weirdness of the world.
Isn't it cute/annoying that all (should probably say most, shouldn't I?) mothers call their kids by their full names. My mother still calls me 'Katharine', though all my family and friends call me 'Kat', 'Kate' or 'Katie'.
Has this been officially confirmed? I wanna know (and see the thing itself. Wishful thinking).

Awww! Although it is slightly embarassing to be defended by his mother, it was still really sweet. I think that it's great he paid that much for it!

His mom sounds a tad defensive...well maybe more than a tad. Who said Daniel didn't like to read? Seems like a stupid commment to make to the media. If I was Radcliff I'd be really embarassed. She could have said something more productive.
I was rasther disppointed that he got it though. It seems like the kind of super awesome Harry Potter thing that crazy fan would pay thousands of dollars (or pounds rather) for.

I can't think of any better person for those trinkets to go to. I wonder what Daniel Radcliffe will do with them. It's also nice to see that daniel Radcliffe likes to read! I remember once learning that he loved to read the Cirque du freak books and then i started to read the books as well. Pretty funny huh? but i'm glad he kind of influenced me to read them because those books are really good!

I think it's very cool that Daniel bought those things, especially the Black Family Tree. It seems fitting that he should have it as otherwise I could have seen some random collector buying it just because it might be worth more in the future even if they don't necessarily like the series or understand the signficance to devoted fans.

It is good to hear that SOMEONE is reading these books that is involved with making the movies. I really wonder about this -- given some of the details that are edited out of the movies, the blatant mistake in the last movie about the name on the tombstone, etc. These mistakes couldn't have been made if the people in charge had actually read the books I think!
