Reports online are stating that at last night's Book Aid International auction, the Black Family Tree that Harry Potter author JK Rowling sketched and donated
was bought
on behalf of Daniel Radcliffe for £30,000 ($52,219).
Daniel also successfully bid on handwritten works by writers Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.
Daniel's mother, Marcia Gresham, bid on his behalf at the auction & had this to say about Daniel and his reading:
This should put paid to anyone who says that Daniel doesn't like reading. Daniel hasn't stopped since he read the first Harry Potter book and he loves Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.

I think it's wonderful that he bought it and that the money is going to charity. I also think it's pretty funny, too that he, Harry Potter, bought it! I didn't realize he liked the books that much, but I think it just comes to show that he is a great Harry Potter.

Well, I guess Dan should keep some of his Harry Potter legacy. Although, maybe he should spread the wealth some with his fans.
Maybe I'll read Dan's book selections...
Maybe he should list his favorite books for people to read.

Whoa. How awesome of Daniel! I have to admit, I was rather surprised to see that HE himself bid on the family tree. And bought it! Huh. What a cool guy.

I've already been posting on this many times but still: this was so unexpected and so nice of him! Let's blur the line between Daniel-Harry a bit more, please! And JKR must be pleased too now she knows it's gone to a good home and for a good price. He's just so generous! Absolutely marvellous... :-D

Totally awesome. At first I thought it might be another Radcliffe, but it is Daniel. Such a great guy to buy it for a good cause. It would be pretty cool to have it anyways, anything by J.K. Rowling is just plain awesome in itself. Way to go Dan!

Good way of investing money, better for him and also the recipients of the donations. It can be guessed that it must be hard for JKR to give such an unique item away.

I don't think that's very fair... He can ask Jo anytime he wants, a fan deserved that (a very rich fan, but still...) I think it's really unfair! At least the money went to charity though.

That's pretty cool. As many people are saying, it's going to charity and that's what's important. I almost wish that a hardcore Harry Potter fan had gotten it, though. But I guess if we can't have that then Dan was the next best thing.

Way to go Dan. I for one never doubted he liked reading. He's said before that he's read the HP books and other authors. Those who say such things are probably not fans.
