Reports online are stating that at last night's Book Aid International auction, the Black Family Tree that Harry Potter author JK Rowling sketched and donated
was bought
on behalf of Daniel Radcliffe for £30,000 ($52,219).
Daniel also successfully bid on handwritten works by writers Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.
Daniel's mother, Marcia Gresham, bid on his behalf at the auction & had this to say about Daniel and his reading:
This should put paid to anyone who says that Daniel doesn't like reading. Daniel hasn't stopped since he read the first Harry Potter book and he loves Iain Banks and Tom Stoppard.

Right we know who has it. Now its just a case of sneaking up behind him and holding him up against a wall with a knife going 'give us the family tree or you're dead mate'. Heehee. Now would I actually do that to a boy as good looking as that. No, wait, in fact, don't answer that... No, I'm kidding. Good on Dan for buying it :D.

The whole auction raised 63,000 pounds or $109,916.
Dan purchased 34,680 pounds or $60,506. He purchased more than half of what the auction made. I am happy that it went to a good cause, but I find his Mom's comment about his reading a bit shrill and defensive.
Please Mum, your kid is not the only one on the planet that likes to read! So what if people say he does not, what does it matter? You and your son are rich and can do anything that you want. Lucky People.

Seems odd that his mother would buy it just to show people that he reads. I mean, personaly, I would find him a big reader if he bought books at a bookstore, not some expensive hand written works...

That's really good that its all for Charity, i wish i had that sort of money to buy things like this. Daniel can literally afford anything he wants but i guess he does deserve it. Dan is soo sweeet! He cares alot about people and im sure J.K Rowling was fine about selling the Black family tree to the boy who plays Sirus godson.

I don't think Jo will let him to show it to us, I think there is something she doesn't weant us to know :S
It's so great that Dan has chose this way to help people. Other famous people only care about buying house, cars, clothes... it's amazing that they have raised so much money!

It's in good hands... :) I am glad to see that it stayed "in the family" so to speak. Surprised it went for so little... I thought it was going to go for a lot more. It was very cool of JKR to donate it... It might have been planned that this item would be put up at auction so we have more to debate about.

I think the proceeds go to a charity right? I hope so. I'd be glad if Dan was using his money for something noble...and it's cool that he, like us, is also interested in the harry potter universe beyond the realms of his playing the character in the movies.

Some of you should take a moment and read the article, and YES the money goes to charity, "Rowling donated the document to the sale by Book Aid International, which provides books for schools in Africa..." and "The star [Daniel Radcliffe, also] bought a short Stoppard play entitled Murder for £3,700 and a humorous piece on writing by Banks for £980...Book Aid International also donates books to African hospitals, universities and refugee camps."
The money that Dan used to buy all this documents are going to schools, hospitals, universities and refugee camps

I that it would be really cool to have something like that but it was a lot of money definatly. Oh well, D.R. is probably a smart person and if he enjoys reading and harry potter a lot, then more power to him! But really, that was A Lot of money to spend. I wonder who gets it?
