Christian Coulson (Tom Riddle)

Interview with Christian Coulson on 'CoS,' 'HBP' Popular (10252)

While touring the UK's theatre stages, Christian Coulsonopens in new window from the Chamber of Secrets movie recently gave an interview with BBC Norfolk. The actor who portrayed Tom Riddle on the screen fondly reminisces about his experiences auditioning and filming for the 2nd Harry Potter movie. Here are some excerpts from the interviewopens in new window:

"I hadn't read the books until I auditioned. The auditions took six months. They saw about a thousand people, but in the end they got down to three and then they camera tested me and that was it. By the time the call came it had been going on for so long it was a relief."

When Christian got that all important phone call to say he'd landed the part, it was all very exciting. "The first film wasn't out, but obviously it was starting to build as an idea. Of course it was exciting, the part really chimed with me when I read the book and I felt very strongly there were some things I could bring to it".

Additionally, Christian expressed hopes to make a return for Half-Blood Prince:

"I'd love to do it again," said Christian.

"When a friend rang to tell me to read the sixth book because [Tom Riddle] was in it again it was exciting - but who knows," he added.

I think Coulson could come back, because he still looks young. Plus, they can dress him and put makeup on him to make him look younger (they did that in "Batman Begins" with Christian Bale) -- it wouldn't be a huge problem. Besides, if the cast is willing, HBP will start filming in the middle or close to the end of next year. They'll probably begin casting for HBP in spring 2007 -- if HBP is still slated for a November 2008 release.

I guess he is going to play Voldemort again but the casting director will have to find someone to play You-Know-Who like a child.

I hope he doesnt. Compared to Ralph Fienes he is not a good actor at all. I kinda laughed when he tried to talk. He was trying to be scary and it just made him look stupid. The teenage voldemort should be a sharp lookin kid but sort of in a dark demented way.

I can't imagine auditioning for six months and then NOT getting the part...That would suck. I'm glad Christian made it though. I thought he was a wonderful young Tom Riddle. He was a little dark, mysterious, angry, but strangely rather magnetic I thought. I absolutely adore him and would love to see him return for the HBP film!

Hmmm, well, they definatley need the young Riddle for HBP, but hey, that's pretty far away! We still have OotP to look forward too, but meh, time passes by so fast these days...It's a thought though. I didn't really think he was the cutest thing ever, but he kinda does have the evil within him. =)
