Warner Home Video announcedopens in new window earlier this evening that approximately 5 million copies of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire were sold in North America on the first day. Business is expected to continue through the Spring making the film's franchise one of the best selling DVD franchises in history.

Ron Sanders, President, Warner Home Video said:

We knew fans really connected with this installment in the Harry Potter series, and that continued loyalty to the franchise has carried over to these phenomenal DVD sales figures.

Loving HBP says:

Yeah, I totally got mine the first day it hit the shelves. I thought there would be a huge line for it, but there wasn't. However, I'm sure I'll have a line to deal with when Book 7 comes out...that'll be fun.

Honestly, Ronald! says:

TO anyone in the US who preordered the set from Amazon for $49.95, they now have it at $44.96. I emailed them to complain since the preorder price is usually cheaper than the normal price. They refunded me, so if you would like to save $5 more, perhaps try and email them, it was really wrong what they did.

I bought the deluxe edition on the first day. I also saw it in the theaters on the first day it was out here too. It's pretty neat that it's one of the best selling in history, but I can't really say that I'm surprized.

And I happen to be one of those 5 million who owns GOF on DVD in this news article. The stores made such big deals out of it. Their ads had GOF stuff ALL OVER. It was great to see businesses in the HP spirit too!
