Harry Potter actors Julie Walters
and Rupert Grint’s
film Driving Lessons
will be one of the many movies showed at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The festival runs from April 5th through May 7th and will showcase over 250 movies from around the world.
The synopsis of the film reads:
Ben (Rupert Grint) is a shy teenager living in London and trying to escape from the clutches of his religious mother (Laura Linney). He finally gets his chance when he meets a retired actress who whisks him off to Edinburgh, where he learns to drive, dance, and pick up girls. Brock's loosely autobiographical coming-of-age tale is a heartwarming treat.
The movie will be showing on April 30th, May 1st and May 6th, with tickets costing $12 each. Please go here
to book your tickets or to read additional information about the festival.
Thanks to Natalie for the news.
Also, thanks to Michelle for letting us know that Alan Rickman's film Snowcake
will also be shown at the festival on May 4th and 7th.

See what I'm talking about. There is someone who didn't even know that Dan was doing a movie.
And someone who wasn't aware that the fact that Rupert was doing a movie was out way before Dan did his. I think I pay way too much attention to these things......*shrugs*
Yet, to me none of this is news......

COOL!!! That would be totally fun to go and see that movie. Rubert Grint looks very cute in that picture. It appears as though Ron finally got a much needed hair-cut since the fourth movie!

Back again...
I've seen Thunderpants, and yes, although it's definitely a little kiddie movie without much depth. I was glad to know that I didn't see Ron in his character in that movie at all.
Therefore, I have no problem dismissing Ron when seeing his character Ben in Driving Lessons.
I'm excited about this movie not only because Rupert's in it, but it seems to have a good script (story) and excellent co-stars, Laura Linney, Julie Walters, etc.
Heck, I want to know about that character that keeps running over women with cars???
Therefore, to me, Rupert in this movie is like sprinkles on a already good ice cream. I'm interested in the actually movie and Rupert is just an added bonus and I like it that way. I don't feel like I want to watch this film just because Rupert's in it. After for what has been a year of waiting, I'm interested in seeing the movie itself...:)

Right now, it's just going to the film festivals. It was at on in Ireland and now it's at Tribeca and it is suppose to be at Cannes.
Hopefully, it will have a good showing at Tribeca and US distributors will want to buy this film and release it in the States. This is why I want to go to New York to see it, because I don't know if that will be the only opportunity for me to see it before it comes out on DVD.
Shaun of the Dead was brought to the States because it had such a good showing at film festivals. I hope the same happens for Driving Lessons.

Driving Lessons sounds like the kind of movie I'd like, Rupert and Julie notwithstanding, so I hope I'm able to catch it sometime. Alas, I no longer live in NY and have no plans to be there at the time of the festival. I'm interested to hear what other HP/Rupert/Julie fans have to say about the film after they see it though, so don't forget to give us a review if you go!
