Last month we told you that Harry Potter actors Julie Walters
and Rupert Grint's
film Driving Lessons
would be screened at this year's Tribeca Film Festival in New York, which runs from April 5th through May 7th. You can now see a snippet
from the film on the festival's web site.
The synopsis of the film reads:
Ben (Rupert Grint) is a shy teenager living in London and trying to escape from the clutches of his religious mother (Laura Linney). He finally gets his chance when he meets a retired actress who whisks him off to Edinburgh, where he learns to drive, dance, and pick up girls. Brock's loosely autobiographical coming-of-age tale is a heartwarming treat.
The movie will be showing on April 30th, May 1st and May 6th, with tickets costing $12 each. Please go here
to book your tickets or to read additional information about the festival.

cmenges,
I am sorry you feel this way. I ACTUALLY like having information on GREAT actors whethers its HArry Potter related or JUST the actors related. (PLEASE EVERYONE KEEP SENDING IN NEWS FOR ME TO READ AND ENJOY)
Sorry dear heart,
I was just being a bit sarcastic. I guess it didn't go over too well. :S
I personally love to read about the actors on general HP sites because you get to get a perspective from HP fans that don't follow the actors. You also, are exposed to things that you wouldn't know about unless you found out about it here. I wouldn't know about December Boys, because I only hear about Dan news from general HP sites.
However, I know lot's about Driving Lessons. I've been following this movie since first hearing about it in February 2005.
I guess I went a bit off because people are complaining as if this is taking the place of some really important HP news. Maybe there is none to report at the moment, but surely if there were, it would be on the home page.
I consider this exposure, because I've know about the ticket sales for weeks, and some did know at all until today.
Some people still didn't even know that Rupert made a movie until they see the info here.
I wonder if people say the same thing when December Boys info is posted here. In fact, when the Demember Boys promo was put on all of the HP sites, the Driving Lessons promo shot (which was out days before DB's) wasn't put on the sites.
So I was just saying that those people who are complaining should be lucky they aren't exposed to more, because there is more that doesn't get posted on the HP sites and when it does it's been common knowledge to us for weeks sometimes.
So, no, I was just being bad...:)

To those who are questioning the movies release.
There is no set date. Currently the film is going to various film festivals. Because (I think ) that it's in competition, it can't be shown to the general public because that will render it ineligible.
It has been screened at a film festival in Ireland, it will come to the Tribeca film festival in NY and then it will go to the Cannes film festival.
I don't know about any others. Sundance had their festival in January, so I know it's not going there.
The film has been picked up for distribution in the UK, so you all will see it, it's just a matter of when.
However, if the film is not sold out for the day I wish to go, I would like to go to see it in NY, but I have to wait until the 15 to try to buy tickets because that's when they will be selling them to the general public.
My hope is that the film makes a good showing in NY because if it does, perhaps it will pick up by a US distributor and it will be released in the States. I feel confident that it will be, but nothings etched in stone.
But, if it isn't, you can always order it out of the country (maybe from Canada) on dvd. I did that for Thunderpants......

Wow, I'm surprised nobody's posted the poem. I tried to copy it down, but I didn't get everything. Here's what I got:
You are the harvest *God’s forged from wings*
Birds fly for you, sing for you *each wing* a beat of my heart for you
Felt for you my clay feet
I do not sing for you, do not fly for you
I am not water, I am not wheat
I would be dove, I would be hawk
Your milky breasts I strange meet.
Okay, so the parts inside asterisks (*...*) are the parts I don't think I got right, but then again, I'm not totally sure about the whole thing. But the poem was, in my opinion, pretty good until that last line. That was pretty weird (and it ruined the whole thing).
Otherwise, I think he did a good job about being shy and disappointed at the end and everything. I would go see it in NY, but I live too far away. I do hope that Driving Lessons is shown in the U.S. I would like to go see it. Otherwise, I dunno how I could see it. Though, with HP and everything, there would probably be a lot of people in the U.S. who would want to see it. Wouldn't be as popular as HP I'm guessing.
