HPANA has learned from a reliable and authoritative source that UK composer Nicholas Hooper
will score the soundtrack for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Hooper is a long-time collaborator of director David Yates and most of his credits are for television projects in Britain.
He won a BAFTA for Best Original Score in 2004 for one such project, according to a biography on his agents' web site.
Order of the Phoenix is slated to be released July 13, 2007.
UPDATE: This news was confirmed by Warner Bros. on August 2.

I've never heard any of Hooper's compositions but I am sure he's not bad, I wonder what the score will be like! Howard Shore was very good, but changes are always nice.

At first, when they thought of replacing Williams with the Italian guy, I was okay with it. Not happy, but okay. But who is this guy? I'm sure he's talented and all, but I'm still not jumping at the thought.

I think that the HP composer job is getting to be a bit cursed like the Defense against the Dark Arts professorship at Hogwarts. Still, I've said it before and I'll say it again: change is a good thing. If they producers just kept the same team lined up for each movie, chances are, it would get old to some of them, as it seems to have done with Williams. You want them to keep it fresh and that means new people teaming up each time.

Way too many people are stuck on John Williams, yes he is good...but have a little variety! How boring is it for him to do all 7?!? BORING! I am willing to give this guy a chance, and I am sure he will do beautifully!

For Harry Potter, it has to be the best.

Part of me is a little upset by this.
I really think Williams gave HP it's musical edge and although other composers are coming into the series trying to work with and around that original score, I still would like to see where Williams would have taken us.
I think the last composer did a good job with Goblet...but I still have my preferences toward Williams.
He's a genious!
Let's just hope he comes back for 6 and/or 7.
