In an odd column complaining about football commentary in the UK, the author asks the question "Is quidditch the worst fake sport ever?"
While watching the latest Harry Potter movie, the author questions the rules of the game; its popularity in the wizarding world and sportsmanship.
The author equates
quidditch to basketball and the worthlessness of the game:
Running simultaneously are: a version of basketball, where players are required to punt a ball called a quaffle through various hoops; a perversion of the kind of bodyline swingball favoured by hyperactive 10-year-old boys, where the aim is simply to whack one of two balls called bludgers at your opponent; and the search for a tiny flying ball called the Golden Snitch, which must be captured for the game to end, and is worth an instant and wildly disproportionate 150 points.
So to clarify, I am required to keep my eye not simply on three balls at any one time, but also on a winged snitch (which is virtually invisible to anyone in the crowd anyway), the capture of which almost without exception renders the preceding however many minutes or hours entirely worthless.

Oh my god! This really frusterates me!! Personally, I thought that Quidditch was the BEST fake sport ever... I can't believe somebody would ever think that! You cannot compare this magical sport to a "muggle" one; Quidditch OWNS! For that author who wrote, "what channel is curling on?", you know you have no imagination or appreciation for ture creativity when you chose CURLING over quidditch. sorry to anybody who plays curling, this is directed at the author of that... outrageous article only. You know you all love Quidditch;)

I agree that the rules of quidditch might appear somewhat odd, or even silly, when you consioder it from a sportsman's point of view. However I doubt that JKR wanted to mak it a real sport with rules and so on, it's more a sort of leisure.

In the article he goes "best described as a combination of three bad games...basketball..." Did I misinterpret that statement, because I LOVE playing/watching basketball :/

No, my vote for "worst imaginary game" has to go to "Tig" a game contrived by Billy Boyd and Dominick Monaghan for the sole purpose of winding up Elijah Wood (no relation to Oliver):
TIG - Just a few of the rules:
-- you can't tig on a tog
-- you have to do an elephant impression if you're gonna tig Billy
-- you can't tag on a tig
-- you can't double-tig a tag
-- if Billy's gonna tig you back, you have to get on your knees and take your trousers down
-- you can't triple-tog a tag
-- before you tog elijah you have to tackle him onto a bed
-- if you tag on a tig you have to rip all their clothes off and marinate them in kisses
-- within a 24 hour period, you are only allowed 3 tigs per tag...if you go over that amount you have a tog - after 3 togs, you are barred from tig for one month
-- if you tig Dom twice within 2 hours, he has to get on his knees in front of you and say "I'm not worthy!"
-- never double tig on a tog after 11 pm on Sundays in front of a naked midget wearing pink bunny ears and juggling meatballs
That being said, it is still better than the real sport of basketball
